Does anyone know anything about the weapon R secret intake for the 3.0 Montero Sport?? There aren't many choices for intakes, so I would like to hear from someone who has experience before I buy one that I am dissapointed in. This is the website if anyone wants to check it out: www.weapon-r.com/home.html

It looks like a good buy, go for it. My Injen one works great for my 3.0 I am sure this one can probably do better for cheeper.

I took a look at their website, and something is funny about their 'secret'. They have put a venturi (that second, inner tube) in the intake. Venturi's make LOW pressure, not high pressure. To make more hp with an intake mod, you either need to make higher pressure (before your throttle plates), or tune the length to match a specific rpm (which also makes a small area of high pressure at your throttle plate!) --- either way, you have to make more pressure at the throttle plate, not less. Usually, venturi's are used in a carbureator to make low pressure to draw in the fuel from the float bowl. I read their 'explaination', and it doesn't jive with my humble understanding of physics. I don't know how you'd make high pressure with a venturi. They then have a bunch of pictures with a fancy VACUUM gauge to prove it works, it does apparently show that their intake makes more VACUUM (not helpful!!). IF you put a restriction in a pipe, you get more vacuum, and also more velocity past the restriction, and always less PRESSURE. IF for some reason you gained power by increasing the restriction, you could save yourself some money and just use a SMALLER pipe. So, either I'm wrong or they've got a gimmick that doesn't make hp, just sells pipes. Find somebody with 'Secret' DYNO results before and after (any car), if you really want to know. I can't think of any race car with an intake like this, and some of those folks have a budget, and would know... Maybe Injen knows something?... Hope this helps! Good luck with the mod.

I just installed the Weapon-R Secret on my 2000 MS XLS w/ 3.0L. Works great. Don't know if I really buy the venturi thingy. I got a good price on it so I decided to try it. Let me know if you have any questions. There are a few things you'll have to be aware of and modify.

When you say 'works great', do you mean you think you got some gains over stock? Did it make more noise? Is it aluminum or stainless? ... Thanks.

I feel like it definetly flows more air over stock. I have no idea if it flows more than Injen, AEM or others. It's a polished aluminium tube with silcone couplings and stainless hose clamps. Comes with MAF adaptor plate and mounting bracket. The mounting bracket lines up O.K. with the original air box mounting holes. You can hear air flowing really well when you stomp on the gas but for normal driving it's not excessively loud.

Did anyone get instructions with their Weapon-r intake? Does it need to be oiled. Mine never said.I ordered one for my 99 XLS and it definitely allows more air. The only problem is it does not filter very well. I held mine up to a light and could see right through it. I eventually replaced their filter with a K&N cone filter. It's very dusty here in Arizona and I didn't want to be sucking up dirt.

My instructions were pretty vague. I'll probally be switching to a K&N filter myself.
