I was wondering about doing a dual flowmaster exhaust. I dont want a true dual or even two mufflers just one single inlet dual outlet muffler. How much does it cost to have all the pipes fabbed and installed? Also which mufler did you use, I would really hate for it to sound ricey when im planning tires and a torsion bar lift. Also is it a noticable increase in power and how does it do with the injen intake? thnks

D'OH!!! Can't see how it could possibly be more than $350 - $400. Most muffler shops use alumunized pipe, not stainless, so this should keep the costs mostly within reason. What's going to be the most expensive part, parts-wise, other than the muffler itself, is going to be the stainless tips you have put on. You are going to have tips put on? No need having it sound so good if the install looks dead stock(sh!tty). Of course, labor is going to add to the "sticker shock". Because, honestly, the parts aren't that expensive. If I had the tools for bending, and a welder, I could do exhausts all day long! Not saying that I'm a great welder, but I can definetly weld good enough to seal up an exhaust system. By the way, 2.25" should be good, 2.5" may help with top end HP. Go 2.25" if the system is mandrel bent(which it probably won't be), 2.5" if it's pinch bent. That way, you've got maximum flow for future mods(intake, throttle body, even headers if somebody makes them!). Hope this helps.

thanks yeah i knew it wouldnt be a "grip" i just have to figure out which muffler will sound good but not ricey or loud

Some people on the forum like Magnaflows over Flowmaster because their sound doesn't intrude into the cabin as much.

which model would be a sort of quieter compared to their mufflers used on camaros, also should i see a large improvement in power and deeper tone if i were just to take out cat and put an I pipe in?

so i could keep the precats and just weld an I pipe in the place of the main cat and it will pass emisions? Also would I see more gains out of the injen intake or an exhaust, also they have electric cutouts that you can open and close from inside the car would it sound bad if I put that in before the main cat? thnks

I am looking to o the same thing with my 97 Sport. I already have the air intake kit but now I'm looking to cut out the main cat, install an 18" pipe, and a Dynaflow muffler. Since Montero parts are extremely hard to find, I'm not sure if the aftermarket muffler will have the same exhaust hanges as OEM. Also, on my truck there is very little space to bolt up the 18" pipe since the Cat bolts in with those wide flanges. I'll end up just welding it in place. A dual exhaust from the muffler sounds good to me too but I haven't seen any dual outlet mufflers for the Montero Sport but keep in touch and let me know how you do. Pics will be nice and I'll do the same.
