well headers are in and the tune is complete. headers were a pain in the *** ( had to cut flanges to ge them to line up ) but they make it sound pretty mean. when i got it back i thought it pulled harder up top but more like a smooth pull. i go faster with the rpms than i used to. in the process of the install they had to put in a egr block off plate since the new headers did not have a need for it. the verdict was +3-4 hp and torque from 3400 rpms to 5500 but then the power dips below my previous curve. the fuel curve also reverted back to the way it looked before the cam gears with a dip then climb around 4k. not worth andancing the gears again to get the thing flat again.nothing really changed as far as peak #'s. it may be a little stronger on the road now though cause i can see higher karmen #'s on my apexi then i did before. it doesnt seem like this engine responds well to mods as the biggest single gain i got aside from nitrous was the TB bore. I now have a wideband and have tuned my cruising speed fuel and part throttle to give me better fuel consumption. The big #'s came with the 100 shot.i am now at 259hp and 339ftlbs. that is 94+ hp and 129+ torque on that shot compared to 71/93 and 50/68 respectivly for the 75 and 50 shot. this engine loves to make torque for what it is . i did expect more from the headers and removal of the cats but oh well whats done is done. about the only thing i havent done is got some head work performed which i may do in the not so near future, sometime after i get a vr4. i havent seen the check engine light since the headers went on, so that was a lucky plus. the new graph will be in the showroom. I say again, if there is anyone with a stock sport with the 3.5 i would give some bucks to get a baseline dyno. Clay

oh i thought i should mention that IPS has forged stroker cranks just about ready for a test mule. i belive it would take a 3.5 down to a 3.4 but would increase the displacement of the 3.0. Clay

nice work! my headers got sent back to Au cause i was out of town when the post office tried to deliver them i'd be down for testing that crank in my 3.0, depending on $$$

ok now the tuning is complete. i will post new graph in the showroom. Since i got it tuned last i have had a bad rich spike at 4k. started looking at my old graphs and decided that i would advance my cams 2 more degrees cause that seemed to help last time. Went to the 1st dyno(dyno tune) and my #'s were down but the same as IPS. also could not get the spike to go away. Looked at some of my invoices cause at this point i say on my dyno graphs that the messed up fuel curve started when the ecu was tuned by jet and made worse by the headers. i was ready to call jet then on the invoices i noticed my NE points (points u can tune on the SAFCII) were spaced diffrently than before the retune and at diff points. instead of every 400 rpms they were now every 6-800. so i call ips and get in the next day. i adjusted the points to pre ecu tune and did a pull which showed the power was the same as before and the air curve was still ugly. tec made some adj and pulled again. Flatter curve and more hp. good. more adj flatter curve more hp. tec let it cool off after some more adj. Ran it again, curve flat +6 hp and torque(peak) and +15 at 6000 rpms. cant say now if it was the headers, the ecu or the advancing of the gears but it is finally tuned right. anyone getting these headers should not do so without a proper way to tune. The cams are now set at 4 degrees advanced. zeroed out (no advance or retard) they set at -3 on the gears, now the gears are set at +1. Now that i have been through all this i will be glad to hepl guide others. i think with all running well i am going to get a cooler t-stat to protect the new parts from the 215 degree coolant temp. so i went to the track this weekend only to run the same time as before with a lower top speed. i am now on a 100 shot vs the 75 and the torque converter has no chance of holding the power or getting it to the ground. looks like i will be getting in touch with IPT again. Clay

damn its lonely in here. well if anyone is interested i will be getting another torque converter and sending it to IPT to have a 3k stall unit built. will keep all posted

converter is in and HP is up. I will post in the showroom later but i am now at 268.8 hp and 342 torque on a day that was hotter and more humid than my last run. The torque converter doesn't even flinch at the power now. the curve is now nice and smooth. Clay

I've been looking for ages.... I guess I looked in a wrong place or didn't look hard enough.... Website would be much appreciated. Regards from Kuwait Val

Well another way to look at is, there is someone who's brain you can pick to help you get things done right the 1st time. If you decide to get a dyno tune at IPS they will already have your wheel base length on their chart:-)

this is a little off topic but the Sport has been put on hold till I can find out what my new 93 vr4 needs to get it running right. Just kinda fell into my lap so I will post more in another topic as I find out more. Clay

Well here is the latest. My results from the heads will remain unknown until I can get to the track because IPS dyno is reading different and everyone is showing that they are down on power. The good news is that at this dyno session they were able to log the runs and get more info. One thing we learned is that Jet has my timing set very high at the upper rpms and the safc can not make changes to bring it down. I am at +50 on fuel to try to bring the timing down and it does not make a difference in my air to fuel ratio. So my next step is to get what I need to make the e-manage blue work and fix what jet has done. I guess I could get it deprogrammed but my truck would have to be down to do it and I want the ability to control timing any way. I will let you know what I end up getting to make the Blue work, but now I think this will be a better route than getting the Jet Reprogram. I would still like to see what people on here get out of the Jet programmer. I guess I will have some more results worth posting once the tune is complete with the E-manage. After that I will put the projects to rest on the sport and focus on the vr4. Clay
