I'm wanting to squeeze alittle more miles per gallon out of my montey. Now I dont want extra horses(unless it also gives better gas milage).
I've been looking in to the K&N air filters and an aftermarket exahust. Any other suggestions?

If you're really trying to save $$, dont SPEND it on a K&N filter OR exhaust. Those are for performance and they will NOT increase your MPG. If you really want to increase MPG (without spending ANY $$): - remove excess weight (including losing your own weight
- properly inflate your tires
- drive smooth (dont accelerate too fast, dont use your brakes too often when you dont need to, etc)
- turn off the A/C if you really dont need it
Believe me, I've tracked the MPGs for 3 vehicles (92 Mazda MPV, 96 Toyta Avalon, and now an 03 Montero Sport) using an Excel spreadsheet since around 2000. I've done the filter and exhaust thing (not on the Sport tho) and there is absolutely NO correlation of improved gas mileage from those improvements. The biggest MPG killer is weight. When I hauled 7 people in the MPV, I consistently lost about 1.5-2 miles per gallon.

don't get all flaming on me, but i used one of those tornado air twisters in my pathfinder and found it did give me a mpg boost. there is a money back offer on those things so what can you loose? also, the cost savings of adding parts to save fuel is one of dimished returns. the dif between 16 and 18 mpg is only about $150 a year. so if you spend more than that you aren't saving any money for a while, but if your concern is environmental, then yes, you have become less dependant on foreign oil, but just a bit.

I have tornado on my Montero Sport. My gas mileage is great. I was tracking it for while but have stopped. I get a little over 400 miles per tank. At that point it only takes 16 gallons to fill-up. With a 19 Gallon tank that makes about 25 mpg.

A good way to squeeze an extra couple of miles per gal. is to ad manual locking hubs to your 4 whl. drive...I added manual hubs last summer and since I'm averaging in the high 21's for gas mileage...
55 miles round trip to work daily, MS2000 LS, 53,800 miles...
I inherited the MS from wife when I bought her a 2002 Lexus IS300.
Original Yoko. Geolander tires...Looking to replace with Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO's (best rating from TireRack.com) soon...
Curious...What type of gas mileage are you all getting who have these tires (REVO)??

I get fewer mpg but I also got the 6-ply c load tires. Also with the size I went to, 31+ my spedo is off 11.6 miles in 300 miles. Clay

I usually get 19-20 in the summer, 16-18 in the winter... but I also have 31's so I'm sure my speedo is off a little bit.
Beaverton, I have the Revos... and love them.
