I'm getting a flowmaster for my MS but i wanted other peoples opinion on it first. they said either the 40 or 50 series would be fine. i know that the 40 series is a little bigger than the 50. does anyone have any of these flowmasters?

I've got the 50Series on my MS and it's sounds great. Low, deep and throaty without being excessive loud and obnoxious.

awesome. do you think the 40 series would be too much though? cuz that's what the guys at meineke said would work well.

If Joel is saying 50 series, I'd suggest 50 series.... I took the advice of my local shop and put on a Magnaflow...gave him some latitude about the pipe from cat to muffler and the exhaust tip : stepped the pipe up by 1/4" and gave me a double walled tip and now the exhaust is louder but not at all "throaty"...sounds more like a hopped up Civic, and when I ntacted Magnaflow about the poor performance they said I should have stayed at stock pipe dia. and may not have sufficient backpressure now........ Y'all with the 3.0 have it a little better as Gibson still lists a muffler for that engine in their catalog. If Flowmaster 50 series is working for the MS I say stick with what ya know......

I went with TWO Magnaflows... The biggest oval can that would fit in the stock postion PLUS a round one with tip at the bumper. Still too ricey for what I wanted, great at idle, but everything after that sounds too much like a stuffed trumpet. I had a Borla in there too at one point, and that was worse. Heck, try the Flowmaster... I may be going there one day myself.

Did changing the muffler made real performance improvements, besides sounding better?

I have only the K&N filter besides my exhaust, which is 2.25" mandrel bent after the Y pipe, high flow cat, and two straight through magnaflows... with all that, yes I feel a little gain above 4000 rpm, but I would gladly trade that for gains below 3000 rpm... and that is hard to come by... sooo it was a small gain for doing alot more than just the muffler in my case. DO I like the sound??- no not really... I was hoping for mellow with 2 magnaflows, but didn't get there yet...

i was thinking about going with a flow master muffler but didnt want that buzzing noise going on. with the b pipe did you use resonated or unresonated piping? also have any of you heard what the hks exhaust kits sounds like? thanks

For the complete story of my exhaust, i actually started with an HKS Catback setup. Sounds great with noticable high RPM gains (which is great since i have a manual transmission). Simple bolt on installation but was PRICEY! The muffler section was damaged from road debris which led to a severely irritating rattle. Since i didn't want to fork out more $$ for another HKS setup, i had a local muffler shop transplant a Flowmaster 50 series unit in place of the HKS muffler section USING THE EXISTING HKS PLUMBING (including the tip). The Flowmaster sounded even BETTER than the HKS. Deep and throaty.. the way a truck should sound (especially when decellerating in gear ). Performance gains were minimal if any with NO DROP in performance compared to the HKS unit that was just removed. I tried to record the sound of the exhaust system on my truck with no luck... too much road noise and such to appreciate it's true throaty sound. Joel, CA

would you happen to know wheather the b pipe from the hks kit is resonated or not? just so i get the same result when i get the muffler and pipe from the muffler shop and all.
