Is this not available? The stock ECU is tuned with a better Air/Fuel ratio and adapts to any modifications that you can can add (higher flow intake or exhaust for example). Some companies for european cars (APR and GIAC) give options for stock tuning, sport tuning, engine kill all in one reprogram with an additional keychain remote. I had this on my '01 passat and it increased horsepower of the 4cyl turbo by 40-50HP by better utilizing the stock turbo and retuning the air/fuel ratio. All that and I increased my mpg by 3-4mpg. The 6cyl non-turbo gained about 20HP by adding the chip. The companies also offer a Transmission tuning chip that tunes the tranny to drive more like a manual, lets you redline before it shifts etc etc. (jet performance?)

New mirtsubishi ECU dont use an eeprom chip so you cant reprogram them easily.
They also claim 20hp on the v6 but that is either BS, or they come very restricted stock. The turbo on the other hand is easy to get 50hp because VW has the boost controlled by the computer. So most of what they did was raise the boost.

I'm also a member over on the www.vwvortex.com and I've seen tons of posted Dyno's from people who did just the chip only and got about +6whp from the chip only. Added a CAI and it went up to +12whp and an exhaust and the total with chip and CAI was around +20whp So, for $1,000 you get 20 more horses at the wheels. That's $50/hp. I just bought an Ijen CAI RD intake for my new to me, '01 Jetta VR6. Next up is the GIAC chip then exhaust. The motronic gas pedal stinks with its lag and the chip gets rid of it completely.

did u check my dyno post. I got 7 hp and 7 ftlb tourqe and only spent $250 to have my throtle bodie bored out. The jet performance reprogram will add around 15-20 and it is only $400. This is prob one of the few times a monty owner can spend less and get more as far as mods go. Clay

basically looking at 7hp from boring out the t.b. and 15+/- from the jet chip and then K&N and better flow exhaust is about all we can do then with a 3.0 without breaking the bank completely...

I'n not talking about a chip. u can remove ur ecu and send it to Jet Performance and have then reprogram it 4 u. I will be sending the specs 4 the cams I'm getting and all info on what I have done along with my ecu and they will program it accordingly. Clay

they should be able to remap the air/fuel and advance the timing quite a bit.
Since our Montero Sports, at least the 3.0 is designed to run on the cheap stuff, you can advance the timing and run premium 91+ octane and get a nice bump in HP.
In some cases with an otherwise stock motor, you can see a difference of up to 30hp just advancing the timing.

I plan on advancing the timing when I have my cams put in. I am also getting a rising rate fuel pres regulator but I am now wondering if I should do the reprogram with premium gas at $2.30+. I am hoping that jet can program it to run a little lean and let the regulator pick up the slack when I mash the gas. It sounds good in theory but I havent talked to them recently to see if it is possible. Clay
