Just a quick question about the K&N air filter for those who have dropped one in. I have not had a chance to research this engine setup, and since it is my first Mitsubishi I am learning as I go... so work with me. Does the 3.5L have the post-airbox MAF sensor? My other vehicle is a Tacoma, and the reason I do not have a K&N in it is many reports of MAF damage due to the heating element getting burned from the filter oil. (ouch... $310.00) Anyway, thanks ahead of time

no problem like that ever reported that I know of with a Montero SPort.
The sensor if memory serves is just plugged in between the air box and the throttle body. Closer to the throttle body than the air box I believe.

the sensor is the 1st thing after the filter. there is a honeycomb air straightener thing then the sensor. i ran a drop in and a cone on my pathfinder for years and no one on that discussion board ever had a problem either. you'd have to put A LOT of oil on that filter to get it sucked off the cotton element. i say, do it. and welcome!
