Has anyone extended their intake to include tubing to get cold air from outside of the engine bay using the stock airbox? Has anyone had success with their injen or other aftermarket intake in doing the same? If so, please post pics, thanks!

I've thought about it using a kit available for the Gen 3 Eclipses. It basically leaves the airflow sensor in it's current location and extends the intake away from the engine compartment behind the front bumper. Just another thing on my wish list so far.....

I did something similar with an old bmw 325. I was able to extend the intake from the box, fit it thru a hi beam light socket (which was removed). So basically it was a rigged up ram air system. But it got that bmw from 0-60 in about 11 seconds ( 2.6 litre 4 door with 109K )Eventually I decided I needed my high beams. But I don't really see a way to easily do something like that in this car. I really like the look of the snorkels but have to admit I would have no use for it!

yes i got your pictures, thanks! what material did you use, I can't really see the routing of the intake from the bumper to the engine interior. But, this will give me an idea. Thanks again

i used sheet metal u can get at lowes. The piece of pipe I used was the s shaped one that went into the fender and the stock air box and I ran it through the hole in the core support. did u read the write up i did on it? Clay

i used a ribbed pipe that bends that runs from the slotted lower grill part of the bumper up through a hole that had a useless piece of plastic covering it and comes out right next to my intake. here are some pics. photobucket.com/albums/v149/bullit86/montero/

zed u may want to think about building a wall out of sheet metal between ur engine and the intake area to keep the cool air coming in from mixing with the hot air from the engine. that is something I did and is rather easy. If u want a pic pm me with ur e-mail. Clay

Hey 45, pics 059 and 058 show the top of the sheet metal box (scoop) I angled fron 1in on the right to 5in on the left. The black thing above it is the tube that runs through the core support and comes into the intake area of the engine bay that i have walled up. I had a body shop seal everything up after a front end inpact so it is much micer than my original work. Clay
