After doing alot of research and several calls to MSD to make sure that I got the right part I purchased an MSD Stacker-4 ( PN 7010 ) ignition module. It is not vehicle specific but MSD said it would work in my Montero Sport. Its supposed to deliver multiple capacitive sparks and more energy to my plugs by piggy backing onto my current ignition. I called MSD to verify that it would work and to double check on the wire connections. All seemed right with the world. I very carefully installed the system with quality parts and a disconnected battery. I double checked my installation and it was a go. I hooked up the battery and turned the key. Engine cranked but no starting. A little frustrated. Checked my wires again. Checked all my fuses. Still would not start. Removed MSD module and returned my Montero Sport to factory condition making sure any wire splices were solid. Connected battery again and guess what.............nothing. She will crank but wont start. No "service engine" light comes on. Everything else seems to work. I had to have the truck towed to local Mitsubishi dealer. AAAARRRRGGHHH !!!!!!! I have a bad feeling I fried the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). I'm hoping it will be a relay or other cheaper part. Any ideas on what I may have done. Any way to tell at home if the PCM is fried. Either way I'm in for some expensive parts and labor. Any body have experience with aftermarket ignition in their MS ? Do you think it is worth trying another system that is more vehicle specific ? Is the stock ignition more than enough for a 3.0L w/ only cat-back exhaust, high flow intake, and JET chip upgrade. I feel like an idiot but was very careful about how I went about this particular installation. Any input would really be appreciated.

The stock ignition system is more than capable of handling any bolt on upgrades short of forced induction. Considering that you have 1 coil for every 2 cylinders, there is sure to be more than enough reserve capacity should the required firing voltage goes up due to modifications.

I would not try a new ignition without also using a piggyback. Electromotive sells a ignition systen that is supposed to have twice the power of the mds and 4times the duration but that will also need a piggyback. And u will need $2500 to have it hooked up. Look them up 4 a retailer near u. i will have a while to save before I can do this. Clay

Thanks for the advice. It ended up being my coil transistor pack. $162.00 part. Much cheaper than a new PCM though. I'm not going to screw around with that MSD P.O.S. again. It's for sale on E-bay.

Are you on the road yet? Tell us about the Jet V force chip, do you think it got you the 8-10 hp claimed? Are you still smog legal?

Happy to Say that I am on the road again with no ill effects The Jet V-force is nice. It's an easy install. I'd definitely say it gave me some horsepower. 8-10 is probably close. I've decided to have my computer reprogrammed in the near future. Jet says that will give me about 15-20 HP. Either way I'll probably be selling the V-Force in the near future. The V-Force is great. I just want to maximize my HP with what I've already done by having the computer reprogrammed. I'll list it on here first if I decide to sell it. Thanks for the inquiry.

:P15-20 hp would be NEWS... Definitely let us know how that goes if you do it. My mods sound similar to yours if your signature line is up to date. If it's really 15-20hp, I may be able to stop recurring dreams about forced induction on my MS... provided a good bit of those gains are available before 3000 rpm or so...
Is the chip on the MS removable or do they want you to send the whole board?

You've gotta send the computer to JET. They claim 24hr. turnaround once they receive it. I'll be doing that soon. I'll let you all know how it goes.
P.S. ----- Signature line is up to date w/ more to come (AirLift 1000 air springs with on board compressor)

I'll be doing it to. as soon as I get the cams put in. Then we can see how much affect it has on the 3.0 vs the 3.5. Altough I think I do have a few more mods but everyone will be able to see what is possible. u may want to dyno ur rides before u do too much so u can see what u r really getting out of ur mods Clay
