I took off my weapon R intake because my HVAC busted again so off to the dealership for warranty work. As I was putting back the stock air intake. I started getting ideas on how to remove the resonators and plugging them with rubber grommets. I removed the snorkel piece that bolts on to the front frame right under the hood. The snorkel just might fit between the tight space between the radiator mount and passanger side light cut out, which is exposed to cooler air right behind the plastic grille and has adequate protection from rocks, and splashes of water etc. I am thinking all I need is some hose, not sure what diameter yet and some way to lock it to the snorkel and airbox and figure out a way to bolt the snorkel to the frame securely. This way I can keep a stock look on the air intake. I like the Weapon R, but the hot hot air in the engine most likely does not benefit the Monty when you are accelerating from a stop. Put a drop in K&N or some quality foam filter and I would probably have a copy of a Volant or Tru Flow cold air intake. Any thoughts?

all that hot air talk i am not so convinced about. just what % are you losing from hot air vs gaining from the new filter? plus, i know heat soak will effect an engine, but how hot does it have to get? maybe wrapping the headers with heat shielding tape would reduce ait temp more. how much hot air is left in the engine bay once you are moving? who wants the stock look? i say let it be, listen to it roar, and don't do any deep water crossings.

or do what i did and wall off the intake area fron the rest of the engine bay. Clay

Not sure about the MS, But I own a Pt Cruiser as well and am on a forum for that. According to a lot of responses there on different intakes the diff between cold and hot air is significant. No dyno tests, but those who have used one system VS another will say it's a big diff.
Me and quite a few others modified hte stock air boxes to allow for tons more flow a drop in K&N and a couple other things that may or may not be relevant to the MS but I am very pleased with the added performance and MPG on the PT cruiser.
I Don't own a MS right now. I am currently shopping for an SUV and the MS is one I 'm doing research on.
After the success I had on the PT, I plan on modifying the airbox on any vehicle I own from here on out.
Hope this helps

...even though this is an old post Nobody's found huge gains of any kind on the MS outside of forced induction fantasies (guilty )... Check out the Dyno thread in this section. Lots of $$ and blood for a power bump (hats off to cwic...) I went the drop in K&N route and can feel a very slight improvement over 5k rpm, which though still a gain, really does nothing for practical truck use. So, we're left to grovel over a small engine in a heavy vehicle that the original engineer's already squeezed for most of the ponies. The stock intake is a cold air intake, so may be harder to beat than on the PT... though I have to admit to having thoughts of enlarging the bits upstream of the airbox.

I did it! I just need to find out how to post pics of my stock intake box mod. I can post a step by step with pictures. It's half way complete, I just have to figure out how to get that resonator off the snorkel and plug it up.
