after talking to the RPW rep I am trying to decide if I should purchase them again or not. The labor will be around $600 but I will gain 25 peak hp but loose the 25hp gain at 6000rpms as retarding the cams will shift the power range back to the origional rpm range. What would u do? Clay

I would go for the stock power band (or actually push it lower!) as I rarely see over 5K anyway. But being as you race your MS, go for it. I don't think they will totally screw up street manners and they should give adjustability when you turbo or supercharge your ride later on. You know that's where you're going eventually, seeing as how no one makes higher stall torque converters for the MS that I'm aware of. You can only "cam" it so far before drivability goes to sh!t. An aftermarket ECU or a reprogram of some sort may help out though. My 2 cents...

when it is all said and done i will prob have a stand alone piggybacked. after my time at the track yesterday I think I will be getting the gears again. With all the power up in that rpm range i dont even get to use it in the 1/4. yeah it is good for passing on the freeway but this is a truck and it needs the power eairler. Clay

Hey guys. are we talking cam gears for Montero Sport here? I have been trying to find some way to advance my cam timing, can' t find a vendor with the sprockets. Any suggestions would be appriciated. Coming up on 60.000 miles- time to change the belts anyway.../

yes the cam gears for the ms are the same as the eclipse other than 1 has a cam position sensor on it. u can get eclipse adj gears from fidenza but u will have to machine the sensor on one of them. u also have to know where to set the cams as it is alot of labor to get to them to adj it. unless u have cams on it which i doubt, there is no need to do anything with the timing and there is no known setting that will work good if u were to adj them. i have cams and RPW has been doing testing so i know with my cams i need 4 degrees retarded. for more info check the "dyno results" post. clay

I vote no, you want the bottom end. I crave power from 2k to 3k, don't get to spend much time a 6k. If you go turbo, the stock cam (decent lift, conservative overlap) is better suited than a peaky one. I think the problem is that Mitsu pretty much nailed the stock set up, so pretty much all you can do is trade off. I wonder if one o' them MIVEC's would stuff?

u miss understood what the cams have done, now without the cam gears my power gain is at 6200 rpms (check graphs in gallery) by getting the cams i will be able to pull all that power back to the 3k-4500rpm range or even lower with a 4 degree retarding of the cams. as far as the stock set up, mitsu has this thing so far detuned to run on 87 that anything u do with timing will bring a big improvement. so i am counting u as a yes. clay
