Is a fuel filter on a Montero Sport something that can be done without a mechanic? My husband went to change mine out this last weekend and found the area around the fuel filter to be quite small so he was unsure how to get it out without damaging anything. I would really appreciate any help with this as the cheapest I have found to have it replaced is $100. Also, what is the typical mileage you can expect to replace a transmission on a well maintained Montero?
Thanks soo much!
Sincerely Angela

Also, what is the typical mileage you can expect to replace a transmission on a well maintained Montero? Thanks soo much! Sincerely Angela This really depends on the year of your MS- what engine you have and if you have the auto or manual transmission. I have talked to many Mitsubishi mechanics and they consistently voice that the 3.0 V6 and automatic transmission combination is the rock solid drivetrain of all the Montero Sport model years. A company named Aisin built the transmissions for these models and the 3.0l V6 had been tried and true in other vehicles prior to being put into the Montero Sport. The manual transmissions and I believe the transmissions behind the newer but bigger 3.5l V6 engines was made by Mitsubishi itself and tend to see more maintenance costs. The 3.5l V6 is a great engine by the way as it also has been tested out in the Dakar rally- the most gruelling off-road course for vehicles. Hope that helps.

with regular maintenence, you theoretically shouldnt have to replace the transmission.. maybe the clutch disk/ thowout bearing (manual tranny) under harsh harsh use
