was going to change the transmission filter/fluid in my truck but while im in there i'd like to install a shift kit. Does anyone know where to get one for this trans? i've installed them in DSM's and 3kgt's, they use the same kit. i wonder if the montero would use the same kit...? while im at it, aside from mitsu anyone know of a good place to get a trans filter (not autozone or other discount auto stores) Anyone running an external trans cooler? What NGK spark plugs does the 3.0 24v engine use? same as 3kgt's? the expensive ones?

the sport's a 97 I was looking at the coolers from autozone yesterday, i found one that'll work I want to put the grill with the large mesh and large chrome diamond star on my truck, mine has the fine lines and the tiny diamond star. Is the larger one from another year? it looks like it should fit... will it? Also can i upgrade to later model 1 piece headlight/marker lights?

Well so much for the shift kit, IPT can modify my valvebody, but it would require me sending it in. If i had a spare i'd do it, but i cant have downtime on this vehicle. i'd recommend IPT to anyone that wants to get all they can out of their transmission www.importperformancetrans.com/

Your best bet would be to call them and tell them you heard you can have your valvebody reworked by them, they'll probably ask you for the information pertaining to your vehicle and then let you know they'll need the valve body sent to them. John is the guy i normally deal with, he's big on mitsu box's, but all of their staff is very skilled. their number is 1-866-828-7267 they are located in new jersey. -josh

The transmission in the 97 is not manufactured by Mitsubishi. It is made by Asian Warner. This company also supplies transmissions for many of the later model Toyota Trucks (Tacoma, T100, etc). If you can find something that may cross reference with these Toyota products as far as performance shift kits are concerned- you may get it to work with your MS. The 97 uses as throttle valve kick down cable to tell the transmission when to downshift under power demands. This cable isn't supposed to need adjustment, but you "can" adjust it a bit tighter to get your transmission out of lazy mode. All 97-98 models equipt with this transmission almost need nothing less than full throttle to get them to down shift. The adjustment can also delay upshift if you get it just right. As for the grill- the front bumper on the 2nd Generation Sport (2k and current) is also slightly modified to match the curvature of the grille. I'm sure it can be done, but you'll need to modify the bumper cover to make everything work. I'd prefer the clean look of the plastichrome grill from the 99LTD Sport over the nose of the current models. Picture borrowed from Cardomain.com memberJoel, CA

ok, when i talked to the guys at IPT they looked up the truck, got the tranny code then told me they'd need the valve body. I guess i'll get my tranny code and start searching for a kit. As for the front grill, i guess i'm not a fan of a lot of chrome, i'll probably just leave it stock.
