Does the temp just go up and up, or does it cycle down ever? When does it overheat - at idle or highway, etc..? Did this prob start suddenly or gradual?
If the fan clutch is okay; if you shut it down hot - the fan should give you firm resistance to rotating. You can put your hand (briefly) on the fan clutch hub to see if it thinks its hot... you'll also notice if the belt is slipping when you try to turn the fan...
If the Tstat is working, top and bottom hoses (and radiator) should be hot when engine hot... if not its Tstat or water pump... sounds like you've done the stat. Drop old stat in boiling water to test if it was okay all along (it will open)
When its getting hot, a/c off, then turn on your heater full hot and fan to max... see if the temp comes down -- if not, I'd go water pump or huge air bubble...
Well here's a usual list in case you haven't already dug into any of these items:
Assuming coolant levels and quality okay... and you don't have a bubble Engine oil levels & quality ok? Tranny fluid levels & quality ok? Belts ok & tension good? Fan shroud okay and not loose? Remove grill and wash radiator real good... straighten fins. Look for evidence the water pump is working.
good luck

the temp just goes up at idel while im in traffic sometimes it goes down some when i drive. other then then the only way i can get it to come down is by throwing the heater on. so it sounds to me like it is the fan clutch from what u have said, i witt check a few other things u mentioned that i hadent thought of. But thanx man that helped alot! Lata Oz

... also can't rule out water pump with what you say.

mine started getting hot when idling.. then i noticed a drip, that wasnt from the ac.. turned out to be the water pump.. check the ground under your truck, park in different spots if you frequent the same places all the time (work, home) ..
if it is your water pump, and it has strated to leak, change that timing belt.. just a little contamination can cause break down in the material.. but dont worry those 3.0's are a non interferrence fit engine (valves and pistons wont collide)

it was the fan clutch, main thing that made me think so was the turning on the heat, as soon as i did it cooled down! thanx byrdman!
