I've decided to go with a Magnaflow muffler since several of you on the board have them as well as checking out reviews on other sites and talking to people. Here's the problem. I've emailed Magnaflow twice and got no response for a muffler recomendation. Can any of you tell me what dimensions are your muffler, length, width, and pipe diameter. Even better, if you have the part number. I am just running the stock airbox with a K&N drop in filter and 1 of the resonators plugged. I am planning on keeping the stock piping and not upgrading. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

can't remember what you drive, my 03 3.5L muffler is oval, 8x10 and 23" long. piping is 2.25 i believe. why not that gibson? i'm gonna order one here soon. the help desk suggested the 6" round at 24" body, 30" overall for the quieter tone. about a hundred bucks on-line.

I like the Gibson, but have heard so much good stuff about the Magnaflow. I called Magnaflow today and the tech suggested part #12576. Only thing is that it's 2.5" OD. I may use that part number as a guide and find one in 2.25" OD

What the heck, I'm so finicky! I talked to a guy who has dynoed many many exhausts and mufflers for SUV's and trucks. On a list of performance mufflers suggested, Gibson never made the "list". I trust this guy's judgement. I ended up measuring my OEM muffler, and here are the dimensions +/- one to two inches for some play room:
2001 Montero Sport 3.0L Length 19" Width 9.5" Circumference 28" Height 6" Pipe Diameter 2"
With these measurments, I ended up ordering a Magnaflow, part # 12244. This has a 2" piping. You can go with part # 12245 if you want 2.25". The Magnaflow I ordered is 5x8 oval 2" diameter pipe, 18" body, total 24" including pipe extrustions from front and back of muffler and satin steel. I figured I'd save some money by not going polished.
Now to figure out a nice exhaust tip to make a side exit.

Which Magnaflow did you get? How is the interior noise? Is it loud, is it a droning sound? In other words, if I drive to Los Angeles from Vegas, will I get sick of the interior resonance noise and end up ripping it out by the time I get to Barstow?

i have the same series and the noise is addicting i tend to step on the pedal hard now- because i love the throaty sound, not intrusive in the interior- id say its only noticeable when putting the gas down , but normal highway it's not noticeable. i love it- like four stars and i'm sure you will too, i had the same concerns, but i realized it was all for nothing- just do it, you'll be much happier. in fact i have a testimonal on magnaflow's web site in the SUV section.
