Cold Air Intake
Anyone have any input on it? What brand i should or shouldn't buy and where to find them cheaper and if you can actually tell a difference with it? Thanks

best bet... buy a cheapo ebay short ram intake for a subaru impreza 2.5rs. you'll also need to buy a MAF adapter... one for the eclipse works and it has an additional mounting hole... usually comes with an equally cheapo cone filter. You'll wanna go with a K&N. the tubing will need to be cut to fit, but it has one outlet for your breather tube. Make sure and keep your air box bracket so you can actually bolt the thing in place... nothing worse than having your intake walk away on you. And you will notice a significant acceleration improvement. If possible, making a good heat and mud shield like I have, will keep your filter cleaner and will also reduce intake heat soak a wee bit.

seems complicated for a newbie like me I can give you the link to the "buy it now" auctions on ebay that have the parts you need to do it. It's really simple if you have basic mechanical knowledge, or if you want, I could build one for you, and all you would need to do is bolt your MAF to the adapter, slide the couplers on, slide the breather hose on, and start er up. PM me if you're interested.

Actually, now they sell tubing sections at Advanced Auto or equivelant that you can get for pretty cheap, then just buy the K&N cone filter and MAF adapter.

Basically, that will work too. Like I said though, easy enough to buy cheapo suby intake off ebay and eyeball the cuts to fit.

Not to bust anyone's chops but intakes are pretty much useless. You'd be throwing away at least $100 for an intake that might...MIGHT... give you 1 or 2 hp gain. Don't fall for their marketing ploys and their dynograph claiming 5-10 hp gains. Some people would swear that their vehicle is running a lot better, more throttle response, etc. Maybe so, but most of that is placebo effect. They do sound good and look cool under the hood though. Doing that DIY intake is best because its cheap and who cares if you don't get any gains from it and just get the cool sound. On the other had, if you have headers and an exhaust system, a CAI might help a little.
I've done, tried all sorts of intake set-ups: HAI, CAI, Home Depot Intake, etc. I've cut things out of my car and tried many ways of routing cool air into the intake manifold to help the engine perform better. The end-result is minimal, the money spent on the dyno is not even worth the result I got from the intake mods I've done. So I'm just trying to impart to all my findings from my own experiments. The only real way to get more power out of your Montero is forced induction.
