Hi, New Mermber My husband and I just bought a 97 MS XLS. We have it about a month. We love it but, the 4wheel drive light just started blinking. The MS has 60,000. We bought it from a Mist. dealer. Any suggetions as to what could be wrong. Also I think the Montero we bought had been sitting in the lot for over 6 months I have read in the recent post and I am not sure it would apply here. Thank you, BobCat3

I'm not sure, but here's a shot.
On my '01, the 4wd is actuated via vacuum. There is a pipe through which the vacuum flows. Moisture can collect in this orifice and it can interfere with the actuation of the 4wd. If your vehicle had been sitting a long time, this is a real possibility.
The tube can be removed and dried out. If damaged, i.e. it doesn't hold vacuum, it needs to be replaced. Shouldn't be expensive.
Hope this helps.
