Hey everyone, I have a question about my Sport. I have a 97 LS 4x4. In a previous post I read that some 97-98 sports have a factory LSD rear end. It also said that it was only in the sports that have the off road package. Well I think mine has it but not sure. I have the guage cluster on my dash,,I dont have a rear tire mount on the door,,and I have a gold sticker on my rear end. It has some numbers and some Japanese writing on it. I dont know if you can tell by that INfo if I have the factory LSD or not. Also, this is gonna sound kinda dumb but what does the LSD do? I have a pretty good Idea of how it works but not completely sure,,so if someone could give me some info it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help, Geoffrey.

this is gonna sound kinda dumb but what does the LSD do? . This is simple dude. LSD= Limited slip differential. MS have rear LSDs and when one of the rear tire starts to loose grip, it transfer the power to the other side so you can keep going. How to test if you have one? Lift both rear tires with a jack. (with engine off) put tranny in Park or 1st gear (for manual trannys). Make sure hand brake is down. Try to spin one of the rear tires. They should be a lot of resistance or the tires wont turn at all after a certain amount of rotation. Open differentials will just make the other rear tire spin the other direction.

Another thing you can do is look inside the driver's door panel, or in the center console in fornt of the shifter (where the CD player or storage bin is located) and see if there is an orange sticker. The sticker will say something like "Warning, LSD equipped. Use only specified oil" something like that. Mine is by the CD player. Another place is to check the rear diff itself. There may be a sticker there also. Hope that helps.
