The topic says it all. Are some intakes louder than others and is it by much? What are the sound factors of a intake setup? Tube size and or lengh filter size and type and reducesors etc.... i ask all these dum questions cause my goal for a intake is not performance i noticed really no change when installing one maybe a bit wee accel and mid range power. But my goal is to have that loud intake sound my sport 3.0 is already super loud with no muffler and dual 5inch tips and i thank thats effecting and drowns out the intake sound. i use the maf adaptor part numbers reconmended for spectr but the 3inch plate did not mount at all to he mafs '' whats up with that 3inch plate users'' but the 4inch adaptor did fit so i bought it along with a standerd spectr cone 4inch filter and a coupler. I found a 3inch intake tube in a junk yard but did not use it cause i need a extra coupleing and a longer vaumme hose and a angle adaptor. Maybe its the filter or stock intake tube but i cant really tell thers a intake at all i cant here the sucking noise. Maybe its my exhust drowning it out along with the filter and or stock tubeing. I just dont know thats why im posting to see if there is a such thang as loud/quite intakes and whaT steps to take to make it louder.......... althou i thank i notice my exhust is a bit deeper/louder i assume from more air going in the engine.

opening it up makes it louder cant think a intake would effect the level of sound produced.

I have the spectra 3" tube with a HKS 4" adaptor. The second dyno in the Gallery is after the intake and exhaust I never got a baseline before I started modding.

i guess there are few thoughts here, but i am just commenting, no real proof. If you had a small diameter intake the engine might make more of a sucking, intake-y sound as it try to pull the air into the engine. if you went big bore, more engine noise will come out of the intake. the shorter the better. i had an aluminum intake and a 3" cone and it was loud. it always made a raspy kinda a long - spgaa- sound when you shut off the engine. it was fun to gun the engine under an overpass cuz it made a nice loud note.

What's the point? Noise? Seems like something kids do. HAHA I think this post should be moved from the performance section.

My custom intake allows more airflow. But no REAL gains have been proven yet so thats my 2 cents.

Try Ingen, they have a Montero Sport kit for $150-200 I think? Otherwise just make your own! You can make the same exact thing for like $15-30!
