lol, wow, I think we get the picture! Well, you are right to push the bolts out, those are the right bolts, you have the right idea. If you still can't get the nuts off, you could always, VERY carefully take an angle grinder to the nut. That's what I've done in the past for stubborn parts. A torch would just melt everything near the nut. Remember, you don't have to listen to me, its just advice!

i always use paint to resize photos .... just pop the air lid and undo the tube from the mafs so you have just the mafs and the lid to work with . and your probley going to have to either grind the nut off or melt out the plastic around the bolt useing a hot knife or hot screwdriver that way when you get the airlid away you can get on the bolt and nut with some vice grips or plires and wrench lol big photos let us know what you do.
is that a cone filter connected to the air box? is there a orignal square filter installed also?

Orielly auto has one that fits an eclipse that will fit our montero sports. Its an aluminum adapter with a black piece as well.

I have a '99 Montero Sport XLS with 225k miles and added a conical filter (see attached pics) I bought the Mass Air Flow Sensor adapter from O'reilly's autopart and it fit just like OEM. I used the stock boot and immediately noticed it had more pickup and a nice throaty sound. Thanks for your input. Attachments:
