I have a 2003 Montero Sport XLS. Has about 91,000 Miles.
A couple weeks ago, I noticed a vibration at about 25-40 mph. Took it into the shop.
They said I needed to get new tires, as the different tread depth (Front were both basically new 12/32 & both rear worn to 6/32) was causing the vibration.
They also said ball joints needed to be replaced within the next 6-8 months and that would cause vibration as well.
Purchased exact same tires (tire shop said fronts were 11/32 & new rears were 12/32) this past Monday and there is still a vibration when I get up to 30-40mph.
Will it take time to adjust? I've only driven about 25 miles since getting new tires put on.
Or is it the Ball Joints?
Suggestions/Help is greatly, greatly appreciated!!

Its probably not the ball joint, its probably the front wheel bearings needing a repack. also the idler arm may be worn. if those are ok you may be feeling a torque converter shudder try putting the trans in neutral while the vibration is happening does it change if so its in the drivetrain if not its somewere else.

Will try putting trans in neutral next time I feel the pulse/vibration. I've also noticed it usually happens while I'm accelerating up an incline.
I'll re-post this evening with an update!
Thanks!

I had a similar problem with my 00. It was the torque converter shudder. Got my tranny flushed and a new filter and I was back in business. Not a hint of the shudder and that was 10k miles ago.

Well, put the trans into neutral when it started vibrating/shuddering (around 30-40) and vibration stopped. All I heard/felt was the rpm's revving up.
Next steps?
Thanks for the help!
