Hi, im new here but not to the forum world. I have owned a montero sport sense 2001 and never had any problems till now. So i say thats pretty good !! My question is about the three cats that monteros bring has, its time to replace them so i was thinking what if i eliminate them ? Has anyone here done this, i know the check engine light be on but thats ok . Will it run fine or will i have problems? If in case your wondering here in florida theirs no vehicle inspections.

You will need to keep your front bank O2 sensors and at least one of the rear bank with a simulator so the ecu sees the rears reading within spec. Clay
Update.. I have been told that simulators are a thing of the past.

I only have one cat (federal, non-cali) on mine!
A method I found to work when I removed my cat was to get a spark plug fouler (non-fouler? I forget) and install that in the O2 sensor hole then put the O2 sensor in the spark plug fouler, this pulls the O2 sensor out of the stream just enough so that the CO2 to O2 ratio is correct. Although no rush, it took my truck 3-4 weeks to notice my cat was out (now re-installed)
DSM did this when he removed his cat on his monty, so it works!
