Is this the right catagory for this post? If not, just move me.
Ok, I plan on changing my ATF at 152K.(last at 80K +-. I called the Mitsu service and asked them the cost of the service on my A/T. Drain, replace, adjust as necessary,..adjust.uh huh, sure.
I asked if they would add syn or partial syn and they said they didnt recommend syn for their trans. Ok fine. I dont think Ill take the chance on screwing up the A/T for any minimal friction advantage, claim.
The cost of this service is $200. It was the same price at Big O and theirs was syn added.
How much are they likely to know about ATs compared to Mitsu mechanics?
I guess I will have it done at the dealer per their recommendations and stick with the sp3 they recommend.

I always thought it stood for Synthetic Plus III I believe its a syn. blend. Just keep with the OE fluid that way you know for sure any problems were not caused by the fluid. Just my opinion. some say ATF+4 works fine and others use a multi oil.

I guess I could call again and speak with someone different in service. I made an appointment at a local chrysler dealership to do the ATF flush. I asked if they could do a Montero A/T and would they use sp3. He said yes and that they had the equipment to do mitsubiti montero. I called a couple days later and spoke with another service man at the same dealer just to confirm the appt. He said they cant do it and havent done mitsubitis in years. My point is. You never know if they ever get it right. Gotta call at least 2 service managers in 2 separate dealerships to be really sure. I didnt want to take the montero to Mitsubiti because it was 120 mi round trip where the crysler was 3 miles. I had a local ford dealer who was as close, do the brakes and they assembled some brake parts incorrectly. Lesson learned? I always thought it stood for Synthetic Plus III I believe its a syn. blend. Just keep with the OE fluid that way you know for sure any problems were not caused by the fluid. Just my opinion. some say ATF+4 works fine and others use a multi oil.

A trans flush is pretty easy and all they have to do is hook up just like any other tranny they may be having a problem finding the fluid though try a hyundai dealer they use SPIII fluid in there vehicles and are very similar in the way the tranny's are serviced.
