So you know how some Montero Sports have a red car alarm light on the left part of the dash? Well, mine doesn't have one. Does that mean that I cannot program my Monty with the keyless entry? I saw in the DIY section a post about how to program a keyless entry and I've always wanted one, so I bought one off autotransponder.com. The problem is. It won't program. And based off the instructions in the DIY, I'm doing it 100% correct. BTW the instructions are the same that came with the keyless remote from autotransponder.com So I am coming to the conclusion that my Monty needs to have the factory security system in order to use the keyless remote. I guess I could always buy aftermarket..... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Greg

Really??? I haven't tried the hazard switch. I was trying the "turn the ignition to ACC and back 3 times within 10 seconds". I'll try the harzard switch and let you know. Thanks for the tip.

I have an '03 with no dash light. Bought a remote on ebay (I think I was an eclipse remote). Followed the instructions on here which are the same ones you mentioned (turn of and on three times, press the button, etc). It was a serious pain in the *** to get it to work. I probably spent an hour and a half out there trying to get it to work, but it did work. I think my main problem was a bad connection on the jumper. Eventually, I bent the jumper ends over so that it was doubled up at both ends, this seemed to make a better connection. Hope this helps.

Update: I went to my local Mitsu dealership and told them to program a keyless entry for me. They tried and failed. They think that there might be a short somewhere that won't allow it to program. They said they could find the problem, but it would take a while. I had already given them an hour and didn't have any more time to give that day so I left. I'll probably have them try again when I get my T-belt service done there.
