2000 MS Stock radio (With 6 disc changer)....I wanted an iPod hookup, a new custom head unit that is compatible with my 6 disc changer, till I found out that's almost impossible. Soo, I guess I am going to let Best Buy install the amplifier, (and eventually new door speakers) I used to install everything by myself but this time, since this is the newest vehicle I've owned, too many wires and electronics I don't want to mess up.
Question is; Is it even really possible to install an amp off the stock radio? I didn't see any R L red black (RC cables) Anyone else installed an amp off the stock system?
And one more question off topic a little. Can a rear bumber guard still attach when you have a tow unit/hitch on the back?

it is possible to install an amp off the stock. Here are the basic steps. take each speaker lead, L R front and back, you will need to change these from high out put to low out put. the parts for that are like this, www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22847_Absolute-HLA-550.html . I am not saying this is the one to use, it's was the first i came across. then you can take that to the amp. and take your amp outputs back to the speaker wires. there is a good chance you will have a hum when you use these adapters. you might be better off going with i high output head unit and skipping the amp. Other people, doesn't the infinity system already have an amp?

First, This description is for a 1998/1999 Montero Sport With the infinity system. Your vehicle may not have the infinity amp. Check behind the Passenger rear panel for the amp... it's NOT under the seat like an Eclipse. Mitsubishi Infinity Amps take line level inputs, not speaker level inputs like the Chrysler Infinity Systems (a lot of Chrysler amps are built onto the speakers). In order to use the original Infinity amp, you need a head unit with both Front and Rear line level outputs. Don't mess with the 4 channel adaptors or line level adaptors... they work, but in general just disappointing (Distortion, low levels). The infinity Systems in Monetro Sport's have 8 speakers... the 6 3/4" in the front door are directly powered "Woofers" from a crossove built in the Amp.(can't call them subs, they're too tiny...) The other front output is the Dash Midrange speakers and the door tweeters. Rear outputs are full range just to the rear door speakers. so, in the front speakers are effectively 3 way: Woofers, mids in the dash, and Tweeters in the upper door panel. If it's all still functioning, it'll sound quite nice.. not as loud as you might want it, but good enough for most people that aren't trying to break windows... You can put an auxiliary input on a factory system with the 6 disc changer. Buy an adaptor cable (not easy to find the one that does both the AUX and CD together, usually its either or, not both). On the infinity systems, there is a Black DIN cable that goes to the amp, and no Speaker wiring at the radio itself. (dont confuse the Alarm Din Cable, or CD changer cable with the amp cable, you may have all 3! Non infinity systems can use any Car stereo unit, and only have speakers in the doors, and almost never have the factory alarm or Keyless entry system, so there would only be the changer DIN cable.
