I have a 2004 Montero Limited. The antenna mast has broken off. The motor makes a grinding noise when the radio is turned on but the nylon line does not come out. Do I need to replace the entire motor and mast or is there a way to fix this with just the new mast. Also, is there a guide to replacing the motor and mast if I decide to do the job myself. Thanks!

Best bet is to remove the motor and replace the antenna with a static--immobile one. It's going to be a hassle trying to find a new motor antenna and expensive to boot.
As for guides? No there are none unfortunately right now. I would suggest finding a manual (Alldata has one for our trucks, Haynes, and Chilton don't make one, there should be a post on here somewhere about a file download too) and you're probably going to have to take off the fender to get that assembly out.

Take off the fender? Or just the plastic shield under the fender?

Well....you may be able to get the antenna motor out with just that plastic portion off, yes, wheel removal as always would probably go a long way as far as help
