So while messing around with the JVC headunit in my new-to-me Monty Sport (2002 XLS), I noticed that left is right and front is back. And a bit muddy for my liking. After poking around here a bit I realized I have the Infinity system and figured it would be an easy fix-just switch the RCA's around. Uh, no. Seems that instead of buying an adapter kit the "installer" decided to hack off the Infinity plug and splice everything together. Will fixing this be as easy as locating a factory plug and soldering it together? I can't imagine it would be cheap or easy to replace the entire harness.

You mean they spliced both the front and back together so that there is only two plugs total?
And are you planning on locating a proper factory head unit ($$$$) or just an aftermarket one($)?
There are some aftermarket ones I've been interested in that have the necessary pre-outs (4; 2 front, 2 rear) If you go to crutchfield, you can probably get a pioneer or sony unit for $60.00 that has the required pre outs.
I'm not positive but I think the infinity system has amplifiers for front and rear? Is that right? I have the infinity system also, but I am unable to confirm this.

Looked at it in the limited space available, and it appears the DIN plug was lopped off revealing 4 sets of speaker wire (LF,RF, LR, RR) and a blue (amp switch) lead. these are hooked to a harness adapter that looks like it came from a non-Infinity system, The JVC unit has the proper adapter harness and it is plugged into the jerry-rigged mess. I connected the amp lead to the lead on the power harness and it worked. Output is strong and clear, but muddy because they are backward. Meaning the rear speakers are getting the full front signal (high/mid/low) but the front 6 are only getting the lows the rears typically get. I'm just wondering if I should try and sort out this mess or find a harness or-preferrably-just the DIN plug and 12-16" of wire and fix it right.
For what it's worth, I plan on replacing the JVC with a unit that offers more ability to fine-tune the sound as this one seemingly has no provisions for adjusting H/M/L, just presets (Jazz, Hip-Hop, Rock etc).

Oh, and from what I understand the Infinty amp has built-in component/crossovers for the fronts and rear in one unit.

Ok, I decided to stop by the local Audio/Visual AUTHORITY (Bob and Ron's Worldwide Stereo-these guys are GOOD) and pick the dude's brain. Basically told me what we've discussed here, and that they'd do it in 1-1.5 hours at $65 per. Since I had some time to kill before work (about an hour, actually) I went and had my skates sharpened then went to work early. Pulled the radio, figured out which wires were for what speakers, and in twenty minutes or so had it all working splendidly. FOR FREE.
And we can disregard my previous statement about the adjustability of sound with the JVC. I went messing with it some more and found a somewhat hidden 7-band EQ.

I hate how they hide all the good stuff in layers of menus. Luckily for me stock radio has my bass and treble settings in knob form. Love it! Thats great you found the settings and solved your problem for free! Nothing better than having a solution that you did yourself for free!
