My radio wasn't sounding too good so I took it out to check for any loose wires. The wiring harness and antenna were connected along with this cord: The other end wasn't connected to anything. So I took it off the radio and put the radio back in. Now it doesnt even turn on! So I plugged it back in and looked everywhere to connect the other end but I couldnt find anything. Where does the other end go?? Why won't the radio work without it if doesn't plug into anything? Thanks, Brian

That looks like the cord for the cd player that sits below the radio I believe. I vaguely remember seeing it when servicing that area on my rig, not sure why the radio would just not operate without it, strange.

Do you have the factory radio...

Thanks for the replies! Yes, its factory. The head unit has a cd player so no extra cd player underneath. No cd changer or amps or anything. I guess its just using this cord as a ground but wouldnt that be in wiring harness?

Im at a loss mine also has a connector similar to that , I have the infinity system with a jvc aftermarket deck that i just installed, but did not plug one end of that plug in didnt pull on it to see if it was connected at the other end. Good Luck.

I also have the infinity sound system so my head unit is just the radio and tape player. Separate unit for cd.
So plugging the cord back in made it work? Even though nothing was on the other end?

It worked when I plugged it in and touched the other end to metal (ground). I also noticed that the radio "worked", without the cord above ,when I screwed in the bottom right screw that holds the radio in. This was the only screw that was sparking and popping while I was screwing it in. I say "worked" because it still sounds like crap.

Sounds like you need a good ground strap to some metal on the body then. It also appears that it was only working before because the cord had contact with some good chunk of metal. I imagine that the head unit got its ground through whatever used to be connected to the other end of the cord. Although this could be entirely flawed logic.
It wouldn't hurt in the slightest to ground the radio casing to the body I think? Like take a wire and strip both ends. Screw one end kind of jammed in with the screw on the radio, and get a sheet metal screw and mash the other end in through some metal you can find.
A cleaner way would of course be to make to nice ends crimped with loops to just put around the screws. Either way..
