So since we bought the Sport it has has the AC/HVAC knob lights out at night. Infact, the only thing that lights at night, when the headlights are on, is the A/C button (the one with the snow flake) Nothing else lights. Here is my unit for clarification. In case I'm call it the wrong name, or the configuration matters. 2001 Sport XLS Is this typically a bulb issue? Or is there anything else I need to check before I start tearing things apart to figure what bulbs are where. I assume its not a fuse since the AC/snow flake lights. What do I do to fix the bulb in the little button below the AC one (the resurculation button)? I read something about a radioshack replacement bulb if you tear the switch apart. Would this be correct? Thank you!

There are two bulbs that light up the switches, both of mine were burned out. I do not remember the bulb number off the top of my head, but you just need to remove the gray trim that runs from the center of the dash to the drivers side vent. From there you can either reach behind the controls and twist out the green plug for the bulb, or undo the 4 screws holding the whole assembly in to get better access.

The recirculating switch bulb (under the A/C snowflake switch) is part of the switch. Not replaceable by itself.
Oh, and same for the A/C switch - both '97-'99 and '00-'05.

Here are three shots of the switch taken apart with a small blade screwdriver, the tiny bulbs and replacements, and small bases that were re-used.

Here are two more shots of the dismantled console and bezel, and the replacement bulbs I used. If you want to salvage the colored caps from the original bulbs you'll have to carefully peel them off the bulbs.. not easy to do. Mine wanted to tear. Otherwise you could find another way to add color back to the bulb, like translucent paint, colored wrap, etc. Let me know if anyone finds something good to do that with. Dan Attachments:

Awesome! Thank you! I plan to dig into mine soon... Lets hope my Radioshack has the bulb! On a side note. We hit a bump and the two right hand side dial bulbs came on. Air volume dial and vent selector. So maybe they are just loose.

Looks like I need to grab one of those bulbs while I can. Sad day in history that they are going under. Filed for bankruptcy last month. Half of the locations are going to be sprint stores and the other half are closing all together.
Is that a blue LED bulb dc?

No, it's a standard bulb with the blue condom. That's the part that you have to carefully peel off if you want to reuse on your new bulb. LED's would be nice so you'd never have to do this job twice!

They were my go to place for electrical components.
