Hi All,
Had my car in the shop a few months back for a new CAT installed and they gave me a list of recommendations for brakes on my Monty. Well it's not that I don't trust the shop, but I will be taking it elsewhere for a brake job. I would understand it's impossible for you guys to see what is actually needed for my rig, but do the prices seem to be ok? Ok, here is what the shop recommended: FDR Brakes-front disc reline $ 284.35 ROTORS (will be at min after machine) (2) $129.90 Front wheel seals (2) $ 37.80 RDRO Brakes- rear drum overhaul $379.80 *shoes are low and cylinders are leaking.
WF1 fluid exchange wynn w/brake service (1) 119.95
This is listed on the tech notes from the shop a few months back. I found another local shop and will be taking it there on Monday for a quote.
I thought a few new pads in the front would be all it takes for a couple hundred bucks, But $1,000 seems a bit much. Unfortunately, I am no mechanic.
Your thoughts/advice?
Thanks in advance!

Uh, that seems a bit much. For pads or for pads and calipers? Rather than turn the rotors, look at new PowerSlot rotors. $65 a rotor is about normal, but I think its a waste of money. You have drums on the back? I thought you had a 3.0L. Drum hardware and cylinders + pads. Yea, that sounds about right, too. I presume that's a full brake system flush and bleed? Edward

Thought the rear disks depended on drivetrain.

Thought the rear disks depended on drivetrain. 2.4L got disk/drum. Thought all the 3.0Ls were disk/disk - 2WD and 4WD. All the 3.5Ls were disk/disk. I know all the 4WD models were disk/disk. Hmmm. Maybe the 3.0L 2WD was drum rear.... Edward

Yeah I thought after 2000 just the 4x4's had rear disk. Adding it to the 3.5's makes sense as well. Trim level could possibly play a part.

To me that's insanity. But I also do all my own work as much as I can. It cost me under 300 for front and back. New rotors new pads and a new caliper kit for the back. 1000.00? ? Sent from my SM-N900V using proboards

Do not mistake 'do it yourself' prices for 'have it done' prices and don't start thinking the two are equivalent. Just because someone can do it in their back yard for $300 doesn't mean that's what the shops should be charging you. $1000 for all they're replacing and doing? Yea, like I said, that sounds about right. The question isn't the cost, its whether you need all that done. Edward

Yes get a second opinion. I did forget to mention I'm close to getting my mechanical engineering degree so that helps that 300 price.;D

Before my my rig was mine, I charged my roommate 150 bucks to do all 4. I have been working on cars for a long time so brake jobs are a walk in the park for me. I would get a second opinion if I were you tho.

He quoted me $200 for front pads over the phone. I also get my SMOG done their and they are honest folks. Thank you all for the advice. Much appreciated.
