The mud guards? Ya I don't do any off-roading, at least not intentionally. No, the rubber skirts inside the fender wells. Keeps splash in the wheel well from getting into the engine bay. Edward

Edward Ah yes, I replaced all of them from OEMmitsu. The originals were pretty torn up by the previous owner, like many other things below the water line. Dan

I noticed that the alternator gets a lot of splash from the road with the passenger side one missing. Edward

Thanks for posting. The shield seems to be helping. I noticed that it blocked the slow drip so far.

Not a bad idea at all. Might carry a spare starter as well. Freaked me out when I couldn't start mine a while back. Can't push start an AT.

Jpele & BD, how are your alternators holding? good with all those shields? In the market for one but thinking of going to with what you have or HO ones.

Mines still going. If you need a shield something is wrong that's needs to be addressed. But mine is good.

I just bought a third 175A from Quality Power as a spare (for the time being). Quality Power HO Montero & Montero Sport AlternatorsI swapped the original 175A off my big '97 and onto the '99 I'm building and installed my second 175A on the big Sport. I wanted to check out the original 175A alternator that's been on my Sport a couple years now. Because of the SAS and the miles I put on in UT wheeling, I have a unique issue with the dust and sand getting sucked into the alternator and then caking into an almost un-removeable layer inside after a couple years. Thankfully nothing was baked to the interior when they stripped it down. I also had them test it and it was still putting out 175A easily. Expensive but good alternators. I haven't had one problem out of either one. Edward
