Wait jonesboro... that's where I grew up and where mom lives. They still require emissions. Mom just went for hers the other day.

Hey Red....did you ever get rid of the dreaded P0401 code? Hey Colted... No i did not... I attempted a seafoam cleaning the other weekend.... had hoped this would have taken care of it, since i have a new egr and egr solenoid, and the track has been cleaned, but nope... Did some work on the exhaust today. I opted for the spark plug non fouler trick to eliminate the 0431 temporarily. I cleared the codes and managed 40 or so miles with no code... then code came on and I ran it by advance... they only pulled the 0401. So I think I'm going to just buy the freaking OEM egr solenoid. I've wasted enough $ on the parts store versions...

I've wasted enough $ on the parts store versions... ha....I bought my own OBD II scanner from Amazon 4 years ago since I ahte going back & forth to those auto stores esp, with all the bugs in our truck, plus different store personalities to deal with every time.....the newly replaced downstream rear right 02 sensor eliminated the intermittent vibration I feel when at idle but the P0401 code still haunts me....if weather permits, I'll swing by Tues to a nearby Pull-A-Part in Buford Highway-Norcross and try to snag some EGR valve and vacuum valve, those were my last hopes.

Well I caved and bought a mitsu egr solenoid. That was fun. Went in and told them exactly what i needed. He came back with two pieces of paper instead. Said the computer did not list an egr solenoid. It only listed "emissions" solenoid. There were three solenoids in the emission system. I'd have to tell him which one I needed from the vacuum line diagrams. I took an educated guess, as it was the one inline with the egr.
So I picked it up today. Yeah I guess the right. Will attempt to get it installed tomorrow and see if my code stays away.

What the parts counter folks call a part (based on their computer) and what ordinary, everyday folks call a part can be quite different. I once bought a Montero that had a mangled dip stick. It took the parts folks and I a while to determine Mitsubishi called it something like an "gauge, oil level". I guess some things do get lost in translation!

Red.....if I were you, I'd buy this cheap scanner from Amazon, saved me hundreds of trips to the stores, lol. Replaced the EGR valve and modulator valves from the ones I got from the yard recently and SES light again at 40 miles......totally baffled on my next steps in troubleshooting the dreaded P0401 code.....was thinking on using seafoam spray and replacing all hoses.

Also, check and double check the vacuum lines. Run a smoke test if you can. Well i swapped it out. 50 miles or so no light. Then bam it came on... got to go to advanced and get code read.... You should try running a smoke test to Seafoam is good stuff. It'll clean it out and the same time loosen up a bunch of stuff. I did the one you spray into the intake. Shortly after that I started having my egr issues. Whether it was related or coincidence I don't know. If I were to do it again I would probably unplug the egr solenoid and remove the egr pipe on the exhaust and possibly plug the hole.

I seafoamed about 2400 miles ago. I hoped it would clear it up. When it did not, I opted to swap the solenoid. If the code in the system still shows it is coding for the egr system... I will replace the vac lines. I'm sure they have never been touched. They still have white dots on them. I assume that is a factory thing... Smoke test... please elaborate...

What scanner is it and how cheap? It would be nice to have one for all our obdII cars... right now i can only pull codes on the mustang with its performance scanner and it won't read the other cars.
