The only thing I had a problem with was the bottom of the fan shroud. You need to take it off so the fan doesn't rub on it. It's about two inche wide and comes right off.

Can you remount the radiator 1.5" lower? That's what I'll be doing with my Montero. I did the 2" lift and removed the shrouds but off road it needs them. Rather than mount the shroud 2" lower, I'll be mounting the radiator 2" lower. This way, there is also no stress on the various hoses going to the radiator.

It was too much trouble to bother with the radiator. Just take the 2 inch strip off the bottom of the shroud and you will be just fine. There are no other issues with anything else attached to the radiator. Besides, I am going to be converting here to electric fans soon enough and the clutch fan and shroud will no longer be an issue.

Just my $.02 ($.005 w/ silicon valley inflation) but you ought to do some major research on electric fan long term reliablity. Except when I've spoken with the fan manufacturers, I've always heard electrics are prone to failure due to the harsh environment they're located in plus they're subject to electronic install reliability issues as well. Mechanical fans will need occassional fan clutch replacements which can be seen happening in advance & preventatively taken care of.

I have looked into it... With all the other expenses I have right now the conversion is not going to happen. I completely understand your point of view. Thanks for the info.

I've had my electric fan in place for almost year now with no issues and have had slim line flex a lite fans on almost all of my street sleeper cars, a single 12in slimline cools better, runs quieter and seems to outlast factory fans in extreme heat situations IE: when placed near a large turbocharger.
I vote electric fans, and i've owned more than my share of them. My buddy has one on his lifted jeep and it's constantly chewing up mud, spitting it out and keeping the truck cool.
to each their own.

I am glad you liked it. The only problem I seem to have is saving money to put some SERIOUS meats under her now!

I have no use for get up and go. That's what my V8 Durango is for! LOL I am not aware of much you can do for it. Maybe Drdude or Offroader have some suggestions. I don't think there are any other gear options for the 3.0 Liter. I know there are transfer case gear changes available, but is that really worth it. Mine is mostly an offroader so, I don't need a lot of speed. Besides with all the extra equipment on mine, I stick to the speed limit to avoid any more attention than I need.
BTW, post some pics!

it sounds stupid but the fact that you dont see montero sports lifted is why i wanted to do something different to one.ill be able to make it without power. i also have an fx4 with a 6 inch lift and 35s and a 1971 chevy pickup im fixing up and im gonna lift it too. so i got all the v8 power i need. im not sure if you can tell yet but i like to lift stuff.

it sounds stupid but the fact that you dont see montero sports lifted is why i wanted to do something different to one. Sounds just as valid a reason as any. Do you plan to just drive it on streets or will you actually use it off road? If you use it off road and experience problems with lack of power then there are a couple of things you can do. 1) Better gearing. Either 4.90:1 or 5.29:1 R&P gears are available as well as 2.9x:1 or 3:1 transfer case gears depending on which drive train parts you're running . 2) Upgrade your engine. Depending on which engine you have there are potential upgrades available. There are a couple of Australian companies making Turbo's and Superchargers for Mitsu v6 engines. IIRC one was CAPA. I'm sure you can find them both if you do a Yahoo/Google search for them. Of course you could go hog wild and upgrade to a completely different powerplant and driveline. I've seen it in full sized Montero's. I don't recall seeing too much regarding lower cost upgrades such as a chip upgrade, exhaust, or CAI, etc. that make decent HP numbers.

Where did you find 4.90s and 5.29s for the second generation MS's with the 3.0 Liter engines? They have a different rear axles than the 3.5.

I'm saying 4.90 or 5.29 gears are available depending on if you have the right differential (both front and rear). Since I'm not a sport "guru" yet (maybe someday ;D) I'm not sure what diff came with what year/engine/tranny combo.
