Just curious. I have an 01 XLS and noticed what looks like an in-glass radio antenna in the left rear window. I also have a power antenna up front. Anyone else notice this. Seems strange to have two antennas.

yes it's called a diversity antenna...
A diversity antenna system uses two antennae mounted at different locations on the vehicle and automatically chooses one that provides the better FM radio signal. The customer is therefore less likely to notice static or weak audio signals due to obstructions.
How it works: Power lines, traffic lights and buildings can cause local areas of weak FM signals. When driving through such areas, a listener might notice decreased volume or increased noise or static often when the vehicle is stopped for a traffic signal. With two antennae, there is a better chance that one will receive a clear signal. A circuit inside the radio automatically chooses the better signal.
Customer benefit: Better FM radio reception.

pretty sweet eh? you can test this theory yourself if you have just one antenna. like limitedfun says, if you come to a stop at a light and your radio station gets a little fuzzy, pull up a few feet. the station will often clear up. that's why there is an antenna in front and in back - those FM signals travel a pretty tight line.

Thanks for the info. ;D Are two antennas standard on Mitsubishis, or was it an option?

yes limited with the premium sound has two, they have two different sized plugs that go into the stereo. The rear one uses a smaller plug.
When my front antanna broke off i just pulled it out and now use the rear antenna with my aftermarket stereo using an adapter. Works great!
