Because of the 2" lift the bumpstop on the passenger side is touching the frame. Which makes a terrible noise when going over pot holes or dips. So I got some new Rancho 9000 shocks in the front and have been trying different settings driving around town. I have found that setting the shocks on three seems to be the best. I still plan on trimming that bumpstop on the passenger side to mach the front drivers side. So the shock on the passenger side isn't preloaded.

what do you mean by 1 1/2 inches..
Total lift for the front is about 5 1/2 "s maybe 6". didnt mesured it when i did it. just when i go to the dealer and compare to the stock ones. they are reindexed by three splines.thats alot for reindexing. the rear sits even higher then the front by 1" for the load. also you have to remember the weight of the 33" tires. they really dont want to move. cosport has the closesed set up to mine.. he can contest.. not sure if he reindexed yet or not. but he is running 33"s but they are smaller then my 33"s. he has yet to cut into his fenders. the yokos will fit with out cuting but there nore like 32"s . the only real 33" out there is the tsl's . those are about exact. my 33" mtrs are about 32.5 or so.. but they are wide!
it sits a few inches higher then steve bein SR.. not sure if you have seen it. or the fotage when he took it out to rubicon.. pretty impresive for how big that SR is. or check the pic on the outdoor wire board about the death vally run. there are 6 montys next to each other.. you can tell how much more ground clearance there is between all of them..
I do give up alot of ride comfort though. there is zero and I mean zero drop in the arms in dips.. there is now room left. looking at making an upper arm for it or wait for the lift from thailand. es97 and i are working on it right now. Its a full 4" drop kit for the truck version of the sport. it should fit but at what price??? a sas maybe cheaper. about 5,000 with toyota axles. but if the lift is about 2,000 or less i may go that way.. uper a-arms are going to be about 1,000. I'll let you know if I go that route because i think that will be the cheapest for everybody. dc

It can't be 5 1/2" or 6". I have a 2" lift. I have 1" of down travel. You can crank the torsion bars one more inch and cut off the remaining rubber bumpstops like you did that will give you a total of 1 1/2" more lift them me. But reindexing doesn't change the bumpstop frame. Your control arms can only move down 3 1/2" maybe 4" from stock not 5 1/2" or 6". You can see there is no way you can get 3 more inches of lift from where the control arm is now. It doesn't matter if you reindexing the torsion bars or not you can't go past the frame. cosport has different tires now then the Yoks. But they are still 33" tires. And he as cut into his fenders. He just did a really good job so you can hardly tell. Steve what do you mean by 1 1/2 inches.. Ask. eric.. How much he is running up front..hieght.
Also.. the point was how much more tension is on the front. I'm pretty sure if you put about 100lbs on your front bumnper it will drop down a bit.. With how much my torsions are cranked.. it droped less then half an inch. it's really tight up front. Ie.. set for a winch right now. Original topic was the shock setting for the front. Due to the extra crankage i have to run them a little harder up front. it will actually want to jump after it compresses if the shocks are set lower then 4. at 3 if i go slow and now hit bumps or dips faster than 15mph it's fine.
as for the cutting.. I was back and forth for about 4 hrs with the tire shop to fit the mtrs. we would put them on and put them at full turn to see where the would rub. go home and grind them out. go back.. etc. I took as little as I could and they still rub on the trail! I love these tire though. your running the 32's you should know how well these things are. You should compare your 32 to another tire and you will see they are bigger the other ones. You should go 33s next.. They will fit but you will have to do cutting though. That and power loss is sucky.. my new gears do help though.. puts me around 31" tires for my 33's from stock. I just want the 4.88 with the sas. don't plan to go bigger then 33 with out a txfr case setup.

Is doesn't matter how much tension is on the torsion bars. It will not change the stiffness of the torsion bar. The tightness that you feel is when you crank up the torsion bars or reindex them you are simply rotating the entire torsion bar and the A-arms down. The higher you crank, the LESS down travel you have. The torsion bar is always at its normal center point whether you crank it or not. So why does it appear to be stiffer when you crank your torsion bars? There are two reasons for this "perceived" difference. The first is the ride gets worse when cranking the torsion bars, simply because you are closer to the upper bumpstops (less downtravel). So, whether you crank or reindex you have the same spring rate because you have not changed the torsion bars. And second, as you crank in more lift or reindex. The A-arms are at an angle that's further and further from horizontal. Because gravity always acts in a vertical direction, the wheel has the most leverage to twist the torsion bar when the A-arm is horizontal. When the A-arms are at a more downward angle (more lift), the torsion bar will feel slightly stiffer to the driver. So if people crank their IFS way up, it may feel stiffer just because there's slightly less leverage at that angle. The rest of the force supporting the vehicle is transmitted through the vertical component of the angled A-arms. So if you ad more weight to your bumper it won't drop as much because your A-arms are at a more downward angle. Gravity has less to work with. But my best guess is because you have the ARB bumper and the winch too you are able to still make the torsion bar twist a bit more then me. So you have to have your shocks set on 4. And your shocks are preloaded as well so that is probably why your front end wants to jump. Make sense? Ask. eric.. How much he is running up front..hieght. yes the bars rate cannot be changed but where they are at on mine, they are as if you compressed your front arms all the way up. They bounce because they don't want to twist any more. they are pretty maxed out on how much more the can twist up. The jumping part is only when the shocks are set at a low compresion/rebound. ie 1,2 or 3. There is not enough rebound damping at those low setting to slow the arms down. it ride perfect at 4. a little hard but the rebound and compresion matches. before the bars were maxed and i was running 31's it would run great at 2-3. I'm not sure you understand what I am saying. I run alot in the desert. ie with $30,000-50,000 sand rails. 25+inches of travel and costom shocks. You can jump a house in these things and land. trust me, we pretty much have. My friends race the baja 500, 1000. and win their classes. They are trying to convince me to make mine a pre-runner. Unfortunatly that would cost about $20,000 for a basic setup. ie custom arms and shock mounts. reinforeced frame. roll cage etc. but they are trying. I just do recovery and parts carry for the break down of the race cars. Ranchos are the worst shock for prerunning. they are dual tubed and none pressurized. the pistons are tiny. They heat up soooo quick it's not even funny. BUT they are great for trail running though. kinda sucky on street though. this is still due to the rebound on them. any way.. I think we have a differance of opinion. thats cool.. thats what makes these boards fun. I hope I can wheel with you some day.. I can't find another sport around here to go with me. Haven't seen any sports built up like yours or mine in so-cal. Kinda sucks, but a little cool at the same time. Most likly gonna go sas like edward next year. will only cost about $3,000. due to the fact ALL the prework is done and there is a templated vech. To match off of. Can't wait. Are you gonna go to rubicon this year the so-cal club is. We are looking at moab too. dc

I asked Cosport if he can measure from his center point of his hub to the fender that is directly above that hub. I will do the same. Let me know what you come up with. Don't you mean they can't twist down? Aren't your control arms touching you upper bumpstop frame like in the picture above? For what ever reason the compresion matches at 3 for me. Yep it would be fun to wheel with a bunch of Sports in Moab or Colorado or anywhere. I was thinking it would be fun to have a Montero Sport Colorado Rally. I know there will be a Montero club getting together to go 4 wheeling in Colorado this summer. But I disagree on how they had run things in the past. So I haven't gone. They keep wondering why no one wants to come to a Montero/Montero Sport Rally. It is pretty simple!! It's not set up for the general public. And yet the Isusu group keeps growing and growing. I have just one word to say. Basecamp, It works. Ok that's three words but you get the picture. They are doing the basecamp thing I think this year but I still disagree on the trails they are doing. If I had the $$$$ I would do a SAS too!! Steve yes the bars rate cannot be changed but where they are at on mine, they are as if you compressed your front arms all the way up. For the mesurements.. I'm running an aftermerket fender flare from wings west here in costa mesa,ca. It's also cut up too. I know they are about the same size that comes with the xls models but not the smaller ones that eric is running. Can"t really mesure from the front diff either... hmmmm Well... dunno. Colorado??? How about a moab run. I know there is a trip planned for this year.. Not sure exactly when though.. Or the rubicon.. That will be around aug.. Loyd is coming out for this one. At least you have three of you guys in the same area. ie state.. still trying to find more sports here. at least ones that are built up and willing to go running. Alot of 2doors and a few sr's though. WE have to get a trip together!!!!!!

You have the ARB bumper right? How about from center of hub to bottom edge or your ARB bumper. I will send you a pic to show you better of where to measure from. Steve For the mesurements.. uh.. heh heh I do.. but.. it's not mounted to spec anymore... It got riped off pulling me out of 3 ft of mud! It is now welded on, the bottom bracket. the bumper it self was put on a chassis bender at the body shop to try to get it back to normal.. I talked to es97 about it. there is a really big flaw in the mounting system.. ie the oem bracket the bumper mounts to. They are welded on the outside only. This was far to weak. You need to get it welded on the inside too. (the oem braket not the arb bracket) if you look at it you will understand. Es97 is going to do it when he takes his off to measure for the aluminum one. soooo the arb bumpers are not matchable too. Hey, I just thought of some thing.. I'm running 15x8 rims.. the top part of the rim is level with the rocker panel on the body(front rim). the rear is a little higher.(for load) I hope that helps.

cont. If you look at es97's his rims are about 3-5" below the rockers.. Mine are level..

OK we are going to have to do the unthinkable here. We are going to have to mesure from the ground to the MS. I guess mesure from the ground to the rocker panel. As close as you can to the front. I found out that cosport and I are the same up front. We both mesured at 22" from hub to fender. or 21" from hub to ARB. I thought cossport was a a little higher then me. But I guess not. So you may have 1" more lift if you have you bumpstops touching thre frame. I can see where you are getting the 5 1/2" from. If you have the max lift of 3 1/2" and you add in the tire hight of the 33" which is 2" . You have about a 5 1/2 inches lift all in all. Steve ;D wait.. that won't work either.. the rims have different lips.. dam.. I just thought of that when I was looking at my black steel 15x8 and my aluminum ones... hmmmm
