i have a 98 es, this fall when i redo all the seals and gaskets on the ol 2.4l, im going to remove the manual radiator fan and convert to an electric. i have been looking online and it should cost less than 100$ to complete this modification. i figure bone stock the truck got 19-20mpg avg city/hwy. after my CAI i made, it went up to 23.6 avg city/hwy. so hopefully after the electric fan mod, freeing up HP and less rotating mass and better airflow across the radiator...i am hoping to get up to 25-26mpg avg, city/hwy. im trying to think of other mods to free up HP, i found out as well when i pulled the exhaust heat shield off that the 4g64 motor comes with a factory long tube header....who knew? so i would like to pull it off and use a ceramic coat exhaust paint to bake in the oven and hopefully insulate that heat to go thru the exhaust, in return, depleting some of the heat that rises up to the CAI 12" above the header. if anybody else can think of other economical mods please feel free to share, i have high hopes of trying to get 30mpg on the hwy out of this truck. i went from 320 miles per tank to 360 miles per tank with just a CAI swap. If the fan frees me up to 380-400 that would be incredible for a 3500lb SUV that is 12 years old with almsot 200000 miles on it.
thanks all corey

found the corresponding electric fan on ebay, 14" pulls 2150 cfm, low amperage, and it was only 30$, the similar one from autozone as 73 and pulled less cfm 1750 i believe and ran more amperage. so it should be in by end of the week and then ill get the relay going and hopefully we will see a better fuel economy increase. i am going with the 35$ push in style thermostat adjustable switch from autozone that can be controlled from 160-230 degrees so i will set it to 160 off- 180 on

You may want to bump the temp switch up to like 210 on and 190 off since the t-stat opens around 205 and closes at 190 something you may be keeping the water too cool and cause the ecm to enrich the fuel mix to warm the engine back up. just a thought.

I have an s type blade for more pulling power. A fan off of a ford contour will work. Or a toyota avalon.

factory called for a straight blade, either way, my MS doesnt even get hot enough to turn on at 185, i use the ac at all times and it never kicked on without ac being on. oh well, still runs cool, now i gotta figure out my knock issue.....eeeekkkk, sounds like beads in my exhaust, buddy of mine thinks its detonation, idk wtf it is yet....
