Progress Report:
Re-routed the intake pipe and am building the hood.
Driving Report:
Still tinkering with the tune, made the mid rpm through top rpms richer and am now able to smoke the 33" 's with ease. Boost is fantastic, still haven't tried to increase boost, running the lowest possible boost after 1 psi is reached, currently boosting 5 psi. Stay together transmission and drivetrain.

UPDATE! Got the Supercharger intake in and re-routed and got the custom hood primed and installed. I also have a video of the truck with the supercharger. Check it out and let me know what you think. All criticism is welcomed. And finally a decent video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr5IFD096B8From here I plan to adjust, tune and tidy things up...hmmm...maybe an intercooler...

Looks and sounds great. Idle A/f seemed ok for the time I saw it. The tranny and torque converter will need to be on your list in the near future. IPT prices are ~500 for shift kit, ~650 for converter and ~2,300 for tranny rebuild if you already have the shift kit.
Dyno ASAP please.

Just a quick update, I passed my State inspection and emissions after installing a catalytic converter. Surprisingly, power seems to be unaffected by the converter. I am still tuning, now for gas mileage, I average just over 16.5 mpg on the highway.
The transmission is aging and leaking and is my next project. Hopefully, soon aftter the new year I will have it rebuilt.
Looking into making an electronically controlled shift kit for it since in mostly computer controlled.
Cwic, can you find out the brand of shift kit that IPS uses.
Thanks,
Ted

I would have IPT do any transmission work. That is import performance transmission. not ips. They do their own work in house. call and ask for TY. On another note, ips did take care of my O2 tune if you would like to take a look I can send you a copy. He only adjusted the points in the cruising rpm band on the MAP map and it seesm ok. I will be doing the 60k soon and will have the shop retard my cams to -1 from stock for the first time so I will also be getting a new tune soon.

Man, I've been a slacker lately, started a new job and have been busy.
Anyway, Cwic, I would love to see your maps, in the past I have been impressed with them.
My issue lately had been something odd, in meduim load situations, approxiamately 50% throttle, I get a "misfire". I say that in quotes because I am not sure that is what it is. This doesn't happen at full throttle or low throttle, only when climbing a small hill or accelerating between 50-75% throttle. Anyway I will keep troubleshooting.

Thanks for that man. Very nice of you to offer but, i lack the tools, funds, and a back up vehicle to pull off a project like that. I do appreciate the offer. Raincheck maybe? I actually was in greenville nc for a little over two years up until this past january. Not far from where you're at! Right now im about 45 minutes outside atlanta. What kind of improvements you have in mind? Merry christmas by the way and to everyone else on here.

Well for one I would incorporate an inline bypass valve for the supercharger. I have that in the works for mine, but it's a ways out yet. I would also pay more attention to the overall height of the throttle body so the hood wouldn't have to be modified so much. Re-route and enlarge the intake piping especially at the supercharger intake. There are a few on the water intake tube going into the back of the heads that need some work, also.
Your not that far, Atlanta's about 4 hours from me, I live just off of interstate 85, exit 68, let me know if you're ever in the neighborhood.
And Merry Christmas to all!

Well it's been a while since I have posted anything. Here is the current status.
I just replaced the stock fuel pump with a Walbro 255lph one (It is a GSS342 with a 400-763 Kit). This will plug directly into your factory plug no wiring needed. Thanks to Tim York with TI Automotive for researching this for me.
In any case, now that fuel pressure is up I am overdriving the injector to the point that larger injectors are required. I believe the stock injector on a N/A DOHC is 220cc, I am looking to upgrade to the VR4 360cc injectors. That should alleviate the lean condition at 6000rpms. I will update in a few weeks to let you know how it goes.
Thanks all

Some of your mods look new, who did the port job for you?

I did the porting, talk about time consuming. I must have spent 3 days on each head. I would call it a mild porting, when I do it next time, I will take probably twice as much off certain areas of the intake and remove the valve sleeves prior to porting. You really a lot of tips and tricks after you have already finished.
Well I have my 360cc injectors low imedance injectors and new o-rings the swap will probably take place in the next few weeks. I am considering re-doing the entire intake system. We will see. Time is at a premium lately and I like to drive it on the weekends.
I have also purchased the 3" body lift from 4x4 crawler, that too will be going on soon. I went with the 3" so I will have more room under the hood. Need to make room for a water to air intercooler, lol
I'm open to all ideas you guys have, especially since the majority of mine have come from here. Thank you.

Ive owned my 1997 Montero Sport LS for a few months now, I have all the more reason to love the truck now besides it being the most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned. Iv'e been researching some ideas to make it more fun (and better on gas as well). I've looked into a 6G74 or a 6G75 swap, a remote turbo setup, centrifugal supercharger setup... I just don;t know where I should start. I basicly was thinking a set of 11:1 Pistons from 3SX, port and polish, and some RPW headers with an AEM FIC to tune it all but I don;t have alot of money to experiment with and this is my daily driver and I work full time so my time can be tight on occasions... I would like any suggestions anyone may have. Thank you for your time and your Montero is very inspirational.
