I have the PIAA 80 Pro XT driving lamps, which I like a lot. I don't think PIAA sells them any more but the 580s are probably the modern equivalent. The thing I like about die cast aluminum housings is that they dissipate a lot of heat, which allows you to run a higher wattage (read: hotter) bulb in a relatively compact housing. I run 130w H3 bulbs in the 80 Pro XTs and they rarely burn out. www.piaa.com/Lamps/Lamp-pages/580.htmlI also have a set of IPF 960 Super Rally lamps (which is also a discontinued model I believe), which are about the same size as the PIAA 80 Pros but the aluminum housing is stamped instead of die cast. I don't think the beam is quite as good as the PIAAs, nor is the heat dissipation capabilities. But a good lamp for the price in my opinion. www.4wheelsupply.com/arb/ipf-lights-super-rally-960.htm

I just made my own, using an extra factory cross bar that I found on a junk yard. Bought 4 fog lights + wiring kit on Ebay. I currently have 85W (H3) bulbs in them. The fog lights will take 100 or 130W as well, but 4 of those would fry my wiring ;D Doesn't break the bank and it looks good. I am running the wiring along side the front windshield into the engine compartment (ground wire on one side, positive wire on the other). Then through the firewall. Works great, and no drilling through the roof.

What off road driving light (spotlights) brands do the US guys like to run. IPF back in the day. Now - something that doesn't require the installation of a 175A alternator to run them. The stock Sport alternator is only about 90A. Edward

I have the same idea but waiting for a MS to his my local junkyard and snag another crossbar. I want to install a LED lightbar, really don't want to drill into the roof.

I just made my own, using an extra factory cross bar that I found on a junk yard. Bought 4 fog lights + wiring kit on Ebay. .... How well do they work? The reason I ran IPF was because I could get a flat broad beam. When they're mounted on the roof standard lights tend to shine a lot of light onto the hood which reflects back into the drivers face. The first set I tried were so bad that when I flipped the lights on you couldn't see the trail. Massive glare off the hood. Mine were something like 130-135W H3 - maybe 60-70W lights wouldn't be as bad. Edward

Mmmmm. 400W? I can imagine. My IPFs were something like 270W for the pair and there was definitely no issues seeing the trail. Wish the floods were on the outside and the spots were in the middle, though. I'd want a good spread to the sides but more direct light in the front. Don't know if this is the same brand but they're selling something like this at the shop. A lot of light. I question their '15 amp' draw, though. 5w * 80 @ 13.4v is 30A. I've heard that some companies are underrating the amp draw on the LED stuff. Just rumors, so .... With the front blower on setting 2 and the head lights on low, my IPFs (20A) were enough to drain my Optima blue top 1000A battery while wheeling in about 4-5 hours on the stock alternator. I've also noticed that these companies are not selling covers for the lights. Uncovered 'off road' lights - which these definitely are - are illegal on public roads in a good number of states. State Patrol will ticket in CO. Edward

Could be a mix of parallel and series wiring the individual LEDs. I'll have to go back and see if it says total wattage. They don't make much of a fuss around here for uncovered off road lights. I don't have any high powered ones though. I have seen some trucks with the high powered light bars running the streets.
