hopefully somebody on here knows about this stuff. was reading up on possibly buying this stuff to get a tremendous MPG increase by installing a hydrogen fuel cell setup (got plenty of room under the hood for it) and tuning with an Apexi SAFC II. i understand its very pricey for an older vehicle with high mileage but i was trying to get input from those of you who may have tuning experience with DSMs. i believe itll be close to a 1000$ install minus tuning but if i can get well over 25mpg with this MS i think it would be well worth it. especially since the thing is great shape, only 200k miles on it. runs perfect. i was hoping for maybe over 30mpg hwy if done properly maybe even closer to 35-40mpg??? input is appreciated

ok after further research im going to test out an ebay kit. its 130$ for the basic setup, spend the extra 15-40$ for added protection of single or double bubbler (preventing liquid or other harmful gasses from being recirculated into the engine causing ping or detonation), and they sell one of those flash chips for 95$ that im still weary of, the one that goes into the obdII wires and reflashes. still unsure if i trust it. had a buddy of mine call me about an older guy he met while he was at work at autozone, craz old 85 year old man in a 20XX monte carlo with the mason jar setup, he claimed to go from 29-31mpg hwy up to 46mpg hwy. im somewhat easily influenced but more research will go into this. it seems effective, and for less than 200$ it should pay for itself within 4 months. so figure i get 22mpg cty/hwy combo, add 5-10 mpg that goes from 310 miles to a tank to almost 400-450. same cost to fill up just goes alot further. inject it into the intake pipe before the MAF so the ecu can account for the metered air and make fuel corrections, turn the distributor to retard the timing a bit and no tuning should be required. claims are between 5-10mpg difference. just by making distilled water + electricity = hydrogen injection. we shall see. it would be awesome if my little MS i paid 2000$ for will get better MPG than most newer sedans and its 13years old with 200k miles on it.

im going to tune, you can get the software and roms free if you do the research, then all you have to buy is the obd2 module and wide band O2 sensor and go from there. The HHO tuning i am nervous about because my engine is all aluminum internals and when hydrogen burns hot enough it melts right thru aluminum. might go pick up an old honda lawn mower engine to test on. that and with the hydrogen setup you have to trick your ecm into believing that you are using less air to compensate less fuel. i will get back to you more as the research concludes.

You cannot run HHO on small engines. Go to smacksboosters on the internet and do it the right way. I've seen guys blow their hoods off cause they thought they knew what they were doing. I've been researching this for at least 2 years. You have to have a programmer to lean out and tune your fuel/air ratio. And you MUST use potassium/sodium hydroxide with a freeze inhibitor mixture with DISTILLED water. Just pm me for any more questions. And for petes sake DO NOT use stainless steel plates. They produce hexovalient chromium. NASTY NASTY stuff.

can you provide where you got your programmer? i found the hydrogen fuel cell on ebay that is a dry cell system with double bubbler. and what kind of fuel economy did you end up getting?

im still reading over it, i just got the safc2 to lean out the truck a little since i did the intake and exhaust i can smell it running rich. i have read using a dry cell kit, monitoring the amperage and controlling the electrolyte levels and constant flush of the distilled water, use a buffler to filter and prevent backfire....thats where i have gotten so far

I posted in the other post but we have learned that the safc can not tune closed loop settings only open loop. You can get a Fuel pressur regulator and chock the fuel down but that will max out your ECU adjustment as it tries to add fuel to reach 14.8 A/F at cruising speeds.

Give up on the hydrogen fuel cell stuff already...Look up mythbusters trying to run a car on hydrogen. It just doesn't meet what is advertised. I call scam!
