It looks like a good time. Glad you're putting the vehicle to good use. With good ground clearance to start, a small loft and slight tire upgrade add nicely with out going crazy. But likewise if you look at some of the customization's people have done it can be pretty impressive. I went 2+2 with33" tires that are wider and additional offset for added width. So far been very happy with it.

I assume a 33" setup eliminates carrying the spare under the vehicle. I want it to be a pretty aggressive rig. I am going to invest in front and rear air lockers too. The ARB RD110 for the front and an RD154 for the rear. I got crossbars and a decent roof rack to store things up top. I am also designimg a custom winch mount for it. We plan to go offroading twice a month. I am soooo excited about this Montero Sport! Thanks for the reply btw!

I had to take a Drexel and sand down where the mud flap mounts , I still have the mud flaps on though. It's just where the mud flap is angled forward. Wasn't much but was noticeable while braking and turning hard. I picked up 285/70/17s. Our stock rims run +10 or +12 offset. NY 17x9 rims have a -6 offset. And I only cranked the front about an inch to 1.5 inches. But I am also running a 2 inch body lift also. I have 1 lower control arm bushing left to replace still. That may have a small effect also. And I have aggressive sidewall tread also. It was a couple milimeters too much IMO.

Thanks a ton for the information. You have been a huge help. I plan to have a 2" suspension lift all the way around. Hopefully that will be enough to have a 33" setup. What is the advantage of a body lift? What does that really entail? Also, that wheel and tire setup you have looks awesome!

msport97.proboards.com/thread/10739/montero-sport-body-lift-suspension?page=1 This post has a lot of great info. Red told me most of what I did. I did forget to unbolt the 2 frame extensions that stick out about 6 inches from the frame behind the bumper skin. Between the body lift and suspension lift, I added longer brake lines. The original ones were pretty snug, probably fine but, considering the those rubber hose were installed in 2000. And I live where it gets minus 20F a lot in winter. I'd rather be safe. I looked hard to find ones that were already the right length, with the correct ends, and that had colored protective shielding to avoid salt issues later. Xpajun in the UK had them, and had to have them also create the 2 rear ones that go between caliper and rear axle hard lines. 5 lines total. Look great, and feel great. Still look brand new after some offroading and a salt heavy winter. I went +3 inch but +2 would've been fine. I also got a 2 inch transfer case lever extension. I replaced a couple of vacuum hoses down by the vacuum tank on the passenger side wheel well. I also created new wheel well liners (only have 2 of the 4 in) I used the existing plastic material as templates, traced top, shifted them down 2 inches, traced bottom. Look like the stock ones and fit perfectly. I do need to still either trim out where the transfer case lever comes into contact when in 4hi, or more likely going to just heat and bend the lever so it doesn't make contact with the center console in 4hi. I think between Red's post and that, it is everything

Awesome thanks! Looks like I will stick with the suspension lift. It is easier and will get the truck to where I want it for now. I am about to buy my air locker for the rear. I may invest in a front one too in the future. I love your setup, amd I really like the wheels. I may see if I can find something similar!

I hunted long and hard for tire reviews and waited tI'll ebay had a deal. Total with mounting and balancing, set me back under 900. Not too bad for what I got. I'd probably go for 0 offset though in hindsight.

Hey Dirk, What does a 2" lift and bigger tires do as far as overall stability goes? My father in law thinks that a lift wont be worth it due to the loss in stability/deliverability. His argument is that there will always be a bigger rock.

For me wanted to make the most of my vehicle while still keepinh it reasonable on my wallet. As for driveabilty, going wider tores, wider stance meant more stability if I wanted to add any weight on a rack up top. I also wanted to decrease how far I cranked the front end a smidgen so as to not always be having the CVjoints at such sharp angles, and not quite as harsh truck feel. The OME springs and shocks all around definitely decreased body roll. On my second year with them and a little of the harshness has gone away but still a lot more stable. I used to feel like a bobble head going around corners and even hitting a little bit of a bump. I don't do a lot of big rock crawling, but I do o down a lot of heavily rutted logging trails that have stumps etc. I wanted a little extra ground clearance. For me I am building the truck to suit my needs, everyone's needs are different for sure though.

Maybe I won't do the lift just yet then. I will get bigger tires (265/75R16) and the rear air locker for now. It might do what I want with that setup.

Also take a look under your hood. There's a badge that tells you what your gear ratio is. If you are planning on going with larger 33+ size tires I'd recommend 4.9 gears. I know there's a lot of info n gear ratios on the site. But think factory they came in 4.2, 4.6, and 4.9s. If my memory serves me correctly. Just something to think about for a later date if you decide to you ever want to go that route.
