Hey limited0three, What did the steering feel like after the hubs were put on? Also if anyone is interested I will be putting the hubs on soon and will go back to the dyno to see how much I was really loosing turning the front. Clay

Hey all, I am looking for someone who is interested in doing a dyno run with their STOCK 3.5L monty sport. I did some mods before I took my truck to the dyno so i have no true baseline. A dyno run for my truck usually runs around $80 so if anyone wants to do it I am willing to help out with about $40. Let me know. Clay

Glad someone caught the drivetrain loss in hp... depressing but true. Anyone other than me tried switching to all synthetics in the drivetrain?? Using all Amsoil products and waiting to figure any improvement.

About 1 mpg improvement for all three t cases on Amsoil 75w90 synthetic... sorry, no idea what hp that would convert to, but small single digits seems likely.
I noticed Amsoil basing one of their '% gain' claims using straight 60 weight in big truck trannys... seems like a good question needing an answer!

ok. I ran some more 1/4 miles today. Sadly my old stopwatch is no longer working so I had to use the one on a watch that had on tenths of a second but the numbers rolled so I can kinda guess by quarters. The best time I ran was 16.5 at around 85 mph. The highest was 17.5. and I had an average of about 17.1. Which is about 1/2 a sec faster than before. Clay

finally the car is tuned and I have the dyno results.201.9 ftlb. And 173hp at the rear wheels. The cams may have affected the torque a little but they gave it back in hp. I know that a 5hp increase in hp peak hp is not that much but when u look at the old dyno graph u see that at 6000rpms the hp went down to 127 and the torque to around 100ftlb. Now at 6000rpms I am at 152hp and 127 ftlb which is a 5hp and torque gain at the top end and that to me is worth it and explains the 100mph at 4500rpms. One thing to take into account is that i had to put my stock fan back on as the electric one i had on in the previous dyno run pooped out. also to anyone who may consider this mod, the cam gears will not do u any good cause u would have to tear down the top half of the engine to adj one of them. It is possible that if I ran a higher octane fuel I could get more power and the tec said that there is prob alot of power avalible if we were able to do ignition and cam timing because this engine is designed to run on 87 it is prob on the vanilla side of tuneing. When I get the electric fan on again I will post more results and maybe run a higher octane fuel then the 87 i used in this run. Clay

I thought I should also include in this topic how the truck was dynoed. The best numbers were obtained by putting the selector in 3. Then ease into the throttle till the tranny shifts through a couple gerars. Then as it reaches 3500rpms u can mash it and it will carry all the way through to 6000+ before u get off of it. This will keep it from hitting the rev limiter and give u the best #'s I guess cause u defeat the torque converter and the gear locks in and does not slip as it does when relying on the fluid to do the job. The diff is about 22ftlb torque and hp from putting it in 2 to putting it in 3. Never tried it in D. By the way I am still looking 4 someone with a stock 4wd with the 3.5 to do a baseline run and am willing to split the cost up 2 $45 for my half. Clay

well it rained all weekend here so I did not get to go to the track. I did however talk to the guy from rpw again today and it seems that they have decided to do some dyno testing with their cams and cam geasrs since I talked to them last and returned the gears I bought. Now I have some # to shoot for as far as retarding the cam which seems to work best for the mitsus. as I wrote during my dyno write up the man running the dyno said that he was sure there was alot more power to be found with some tuneing done to the timing. Thanks for all the info and postings. Just to let you know, people are reading this thread. It is rare to see actual dyno results. More often we see things like "I put in a new K&N filter and it feels like it has about 10 more Hp". LOL
