well here are my 1/4 times. Kinda of a letdown, but I learned that the cams are only really doing anything after 70mph so the gears are almost a must. 1/8 mile at 11.03 and 63.55 mph. 1/4mile at 17.15 and 81.23 mph. My times with the stopwatch were deff not very reliable and with all i have done I was still faster than tony in the 1/8. Next time I will try to lighten it up by removing the 7 year old, the spare tire, the tools and the floor jack to see if I can increase mph. I dont think I will be removing the seats though. i have also been noticing a metalic click almost gurguling/ dieseling sound at full throttle and high speed which I was guessing was knocking but was told that I would not realy be able to hear. I put some 93 in it when i got home anyway and have not heard it while standing on the petal since. Still not bad 4 a 2 1/4 ton vehicle. I will say that if it were a 1 mile race the #'s would be impressive as that is where all the power is but hopefully in the next few months I can scrape up the funds to get the gears and put the power back where it belongs. Clay P.S. i guess my stopwatch times were'nt that bad as my best time at the track was 17.15 and my average on the watch was 17.1

hey Joel, do u think I could get away with running 89 octane. As i said i was getting a knocking with 87 and switched to 93 but bp does not offer 91 so i went to 93 which stopped the knocking. or would the best way to find out be to try 89 for a while. Clay

Big congrats on the serious engine mod, best of luck (& patience) with the tuning!
Is your ping at high load & high rpm? If so, my guess would be for lack of fuel due to the new breathing ability of your cam mod, and/or need for high rpm ignition timing retard due to the new cam timing. I skimmed your posts and didn't see any mention that you had changed the compression ratio, so high rpm ping is gonna be fuel control or ignition (don't mean to pester if you are already working this). I think the only way to know your octane requirement is for you to try it! Def fix/avoid the ping though...
Do you have authority to set fuel ratios and ignition curves?

I have set the fuel ratio with the apexi unit. could not do the ignition timing because I would have to have gotten a piggy back or stand alone. Since they were not able to put the cam gears in i did not get the piggy back/stand alone. now i am waiting on the money to get the gears again and have then put in to put the power back at the peak and at that time I will need the ability to make adj to the ignition timing. the ping was at full throtle and if u look at the dyno charts in the gallery under clays ride u will see where my fuel ratios are now. Nice MS! I'll have to get my sad act together and post my pics one day... Saw the charts... is that air/fuel a measurement of exhaust gases (sniffer or such) or data from the Apexi?

it was a wide band dyno run which i think reads what the 02 sensors are seeing. Clay

So its Full throttle/pedal on the floor -- about what rpm do you start to ping?

when it was pinging it was at full throttle anytime i got past 35. Clay

Just to make sure I got it: that's 3500 rpm not 35 mph?

no it was at anytime at full throttle and past 35mph. but it doesnt do it now that i went a higher octane. Clay

Only thing I'm comin' up with is to look real hard for any air leak after the air meter... hoses, clamps, IM gasket, vacuum... the thought being that your not squirting enough fuel cause your getting air that the ECU don't know about. That's hard to figure against your mixture data from the dyno runs, unless you've had it apart again afterwards. I think you get a code if your knock sensor is dead... least you got a work around.

it's pretty sad when we think $2 is cheap...it still costs me nearly $100 roundtrip to get from my parents place in west tx to houston. Big Oil sure knows how to make us think its "cheap" Exactly 1 year ago this time in houston gas was $1.65...and we thought THAT was expensive....
