not sure whats all under there but, there is an ignition fuse iirc. the rest i think are like radio, sunroof, headlight, fog etc. the relays or the additional fuses im not sure of either except for the turn signal flasher. think there is more behind the passenger side kick panel but dont believe they have anything to do with the ignition.

T minus 3 days!
Ok, after much searching, checking, and head scratching... it turns out the positive terminal connector on the battery needed to be cleaned because it wasn't making a good connection. Thats it. As soon as I did that it started right up. It doesn't explain the pop I heard, but it works now! Also I got a new, matching 245/75/16 Kuhmo Road Venture A/T tire and move the odd ball tire under the car as the spare. That's it for the Montero. Afterwards I spent some time on the Eclipse, reinstalling the power steering system for the RallyX this weekend. Tomorrow I will do the transmission flush and filter change. Then its just a matter of an inspection and registration.

Power steering is installed in the eclipse and I took it out to get some practice driving it off-road for the rallycross on Saturday. Whoa, it's lots of fun!! Attachments:

On the montero front, I'm going to run some errands right now to get the transmission warmed up, and then start the flush before work. Attachments:

T minus 2 days!!!!! (AHHH!) Went to do the flush and fluid change on the Monty. Got the pan off and the old filter only to find the one I had ordered from Rock Auto isn't even close to being the right one. I called the dealership with the part number (printed on the old filter) and its a special order item and will take 3-4 business days. Strike one. I went to auto zone only to be told that my transmission doesn't have a filter and isn't serviceable. I informed her that it was serviceable and did have a filter but arguing wasn't going to fix anything. Strike two. I called Oreilly's and they have it in the system, it looks exactly the same, and they can get it by tomorrow morning. Base hit! For anyone needing one, its WIX part number 58710. Tomorrow I'll finish up the transmission and hopefully get it inspected and register. I'm still worried about my OBD II port since my scan tool isn't turning on when its connected. We'll have to wait and see how it goes I guess. Lots of hurdles but so far I am getting over them! I hope there aren't anymore because I am running out of time! Attachments:

Nice work! I would think something along the lines of the OBDII scanner might not be compatible with some imports.

I hope that is the case too and I will find out tomorrow when I go in for the inspection. However I have used this scan tool on probably 6 or 7 different vehicles and it has always worked. I found this bullitin listing the drive cycles for the OBD monitors. If they are incomplete I won't pass so I'll have to work on those tomorrow too. www.obdclearinghouse.com/documents/newdocuments/Mitsubishi/tsb0313005.pdf

T minus 1 day!
Success! Finally, today went smoothly! I picked up the correct filter from Orielly's, installed it and the pan, flushed the transmission though the cooler line twice and refilled it (I used just over 11 quarts). Went to the inspection place and they were able to read the OBD port. I was lacking 3 monitors and could only have a max of two incomplete to pass. I drove around for about 15 minutes and went back and it passed. Went to the registration place and got it registered and paid the taxes on it. After that I went to the tire shop and had them check the air pressure, all the tires were overinflated to about 50 psi. They set it at 38. Came home, checked the hot level of the transmission fluid and it was about 1/2 a quart low so I got it right between the two hot lines. The truck is now ready to go! I'm just debating whether or not to get an alignment in the morning before we leave. The struts feel pretty worn and if I am going to end up replacing them in a few months I don't want to have to do the alignment twice. Otherwise its as good as its going to get! I'll pick up the trailer in the morning and let you guys know how it does pulling my car.

Wow nice job! That has to be the fastest I've seen something done all at once, especially with all the hurdles you had! Kudos and good luck!

Nice! I'm glad everything went good on your last day, Have a safe trip! Thanks so much! I was quite relieved as well!!! Great success Nathan!!! Were rooting for you and keep your stick on the ice! Thanks!! I will keep you guys updated with how it goes. (Oh yeah, it's a go on those items, I'll PayPal you right now. Thanks!) Wow nice job! That has to be the fastest I've seen something done all at once, especially with all the hurdles you had! Kudos and good luck! Thanks! I would have preferred to have taken my time but with my deadline of this weekend it just wasn't an option. Hopefully the tuck runs good for a while because I need a break! Once I'm rested and have some money again I'll see about replacing the shocks and cv axles. Yay, more maintenance!

We made it! No major problems at all, and we averaged 14.6 MPG (at least for the first half, haven't filled up again yet). I do have two small issues. The first is with the trans, perhaps y'all might know what it could be. In second gear (yes it's an auto) if it gets above 3500 RPM is completely slips. All the other gears are fine regardless of RPM or throttle position. This was a pain twice going up steep inclines where the speed was dropping with the pedal mashed and when the speed got to 45/50ish it would downshit into second and slip, so I has to let of the gas and baby it up the hill. The other thing is just how low it sags in the rear. Part of that is that the weight of te car is all the way forward on the trailer (it has to be like that to secure it). I am planning on loaded the car in backwards on the way back to put the weight of the engine over the trailer axles. However I think a lot of it also has to do with the 13 year old shocks. Any heavy duty shocks you would recommend for towing? Thanks for all your help along the way guys!! Attachments:

Good deal man. Glad it all worked out. Great job with the maintenence given the time retraint. They do make some medium, and duty springs for it. Not sure who makes them but, have seen it discussed on here. Rancho makes adjustable shocks (RS9000XL) as well but they are pricey. Slipping could just be due to the valve body not getting proper fluid from the harsh angle. Specially if going up a hill with a heavy load.
