have the harmonic balancer inspected and have the bolt checked..sports are bad about this as many on here can tell you. when the bolt backs out of the hb you can chew up the lower timing gear..damage the crank journals..break the timing belt..and more. i speak from experience 2 weeks after i purchased my 2000 sport this happened to me..i was lucky because it only chewed up the lower timing gear..so please have the balancer inspected and save yourself before this happens

Good deal man. Glad it all worked out. Great job with the maintenence given the time retraint. They do make some medium, and duty springs for it. Not sure who makes them but, have seen it discussed on here. Rancho makes adjustable shocks (RS9000XL) as well but they are pricey. Slipping could just be due to the valve body not getting proper fluid from the harsh angle. Specially if going up a hill with a heavy load. Thanks so much! I did some research on the shocks and it seems just about anything is an upgrade from the stock so I think I'm just going to with new KYB Excel-G shock shocks all the way around and then the air bags in the rear. Its a pretty affordable setup (148 shipped for all 4 shock from Rock Auto) and should fix my issue and improve ride quality. The slipping occurs whether there is a load or not and whether there is an incline or not. I did notice that with the trailer on the back it would slip at 4k RPMs and without the trailer it would slip at 3.5k RPMs. I don't know what that means though. I'm taking it to a transmission shop tomorrow to have them look at it. Air bags are 80 on eBay. And those you can adjust:-) I looked into the air bags, I had no knowledge of these before. Good tip! After some research I'm going to go with the Air Lift 1000 rear kit, $97 shipped from Summit Racing and it has a lifetime warranty. Combining this with the shocks should greatly improve my ride and fix my squat. have the harmonic balancer inspected and have the bolt checked..sports are bad about this as many on here can tell you. when the bolt backs out of the hb you can chew up the lower timing gear..damage the crank journals..break the timing belt..and more. i speak from experience 2 weeks after i purchased my 2000 sport this happened to me..i was lucky because it only chewed up the lower timing gear..so please have the balancer inspected and save yourself before this happens I have had experience with the HB separating on DSMs. Usually this is prefaced by a squealing sound before it actually separates. Is there a way to actually inspect the HB? I checked the bolt when I had it out and torqued it down to spec with a drop of oil on the threads. For the return journey I turned the car around to put the weight of the engine over the trailer axles and away from the tongue. It didn't help much. Actually it was still squatting even with the empty trailer. Attachments:

Congrats on 1st place! Great to hear everything's going good with your Sport! Thanks so much!! I replaced the fuse for the interior lights and now all my interior lights, the key buzzer, and my OBD port are working. I also got the engine cover and rear center cap holder in the mail from Daniel today so it looking more and more complete. This morning I took the truck to my buddies transmission shop and after a test drive he decided that its probably an issue with one of the valve bodies. If you put the selector in 2nd gear it holds it just fine with no free reving. Should be fixed in the next day or two.

What did you use for Cleaning the interior? I just got mine and it needs a clean really bad. Also that was incredible build time and nice job taking 1st!
Also I was wondering you said that you found lighted vanity sun visors, did your Monty have them to start with or were you adding them? I was thinking of finding some for my XS and the autochromatic rear view mirror, wanted to know if the wiring was there for it or if I would have to add in some wire to make them work.

I just checked that thread out. That is exactly what I am planning on doing with the Air Lift bags. I am also replacing the shocks though because I can feel that they are worn out just driving, even without the trailer. Thanks so much!! What did you use for Cleaning the interior? Also I was wondering you said that you found lighted vanity sun visors, did your Monty have them to start with or were you adding them? I was thinking of finding some for my XS and the autochromatic rear view mirror, wanted to know if the wiring was there for it or if I would have to add in some wire to make them work. For cleaning the carpet, upholstery, and headliner I used Tuff Stuff foam cleaner ( www.amazon.com/Tuff-Stuff-Purpose-Cleaner-Cleaning/dp/B0009PCPNQ)and for the dash and door panels I just used armor all cleaning wipes. Thanks so much!! I found the lighted sun visors in a Sport Limited. I didn't see the wires for them on mine, but it shouldn't be hard to wipe up. Just tap into the other ceiling lights in the overhead console. Mine does have the power mirror with the compass and thermometer already. If you guys are interested, here are some video from the RallyX. Here is my video I put together with my in/on car footage. Good to know it will be a project I will look forward to. Sometimes the wiring is tied up, in the roof or wherever for cost purposes they use the same loom just tie up what they don't need. I was hoping this was the case.

Turns out this is the case with the Montero Sport! I went to the junkyard this afternoon and pulled down the headliner on a Sport without the lighted visors and the plug was there! That will make hooking mine up a little bit easier.
