is the maf anything like a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor? i have looked into that and there are none made for the ms or any that are made for other mitsus that are close enough to make an adaptor. ur going straight from the shop to the dyno, right? ;D Clay

well i was going to but now my tranny seems to have a slight problem, it shifts and all the gears work, no grinding or anything of that sort, no leaking fluid or anything, but park only seems to work when it wants to, anyone have any ideas? a maf trans is a Mass Air Flow Translator, what it is, is an adaptor that allows you to use a 3" GM mass air flow meter instead of the stock one because GM's mass air sensors are way more accurate when it comes to tunning. it is also adjustable on 5 different levels, you can 1. adjust the idle, 2. injector size, 3. normal acceleration, 4. w.o.t. (wide open throtle) and 5 air to fuel ratio. they have them for 3000gts and 1g and 2g eclipse and supras and a few other cars. they are very accurate and adding one to a forced induction car can easily add 20-30hp. i had one on my 89 supra that had a 70mm turbo and some other goodies and it work excellent!!! so im looking for one because it makes it way easier to tune, do you think that one from a 3000gt might work?

i think the prob would be an adaptor. dont know if it is something u could try to splice or rig urself. i know that no one was able to make the greddy and a MAP work 4 me. Clay

ok just to clear up some confusion i have been calling the master cylinder pump the bell housing cause i am ignorant and easily comfused. that is what makes the fitment of the 3k gt heads a bit tight. sorry for the confusion during my blond monent. i will have the cam gears in in a coulpe of weeks if ips finishes their twin turbo 06 zo6 in the next week. Monturbo have u gotten to the track or the dyno or looked into cams yet? Clay LOL, IPS and the TT Z06? I can't believe my eyes reading about that on here... I've sat in that car while the IPS boys worked on it, your name is Clay? Do you know those guys, Jeff / Brett? Brett and I are good buddies, "Alex with the M3" and they'll know who I am

yeah im still here, im just unable to get online as much as i would like. been pretty busy with work and all that. right now im working on hooking up a air to fuel ratio gauge. i just need a wiring diagram and ill probably end up going to autozone and browsing through a haynes manual. i had to get one of those universal pillar pods because i couldnt find anyone that makes one for a montero. it looks good.
something else i thought of, has anyone tried to use a turbo kit from a v6 eclipse? and is anyone using an electric fan instead of the stock belt driven fan? i think im going to get look into a black magic or something

i am still waiting for the cams gears fro a eclipse v6 never thought about the turbo though. but i will be getting nos soon. also thinking of checking out sts turbo system to see if they will make anything. i also have a black magic fan. it is a PITA to get in as it is too tall to fit flush to the radiator. u have to be creative to get it mounted and the clip that held the fan on kept breaking so i went to lowes and got a cotter pin to hold it. if u do get it u will also have to upgrade the fuse to a 40amp which are not easy to find unless they have changed it. also i would get the in hose switch. it is alot of work for 2ftlbs of torque! im mainly wanting to get rid of the fan to free up some space. so i may still look into doing that.
ok, so here is what happened when i went to the track. i found out that my fmu is FUBARed so the best time i could get is a 17.5. which really makes me mad, but it happens. so i bought a new fmu and put it on and it ran AMAZINGLY!!! but then the really bad happened. aparently the harmonic balancer, which looks more like an ordinary pulley than anything else, is broken in some way. the bolt in the end of the crank is still seated and threaded in the end of the crank without any problems, but the harmonic balancer just spins around as freely as can be. i dont know what to do now, any suggestions???

well that the fan wont free up much space. if the people who installed the turbo were the last ones to tear into ur engine i would take it back to them and have them do the work required to replace it. they would be responsible i think since they put in ur new crank. Also did u have any luck finding a translator for the sport. that is something i may have a use 4 since it is prob cheaper than a piggyback. how much do they run? Clay just noticed in an old post u said eliminate lag, is ur truck a standard, cause turbos on autos dont usually suffer from lag.

they arent that expensive and they are WAY better than a piggy back. a translator allows you to tune the engine alot better. i havent had any luck yet. im still looking into using one from a 3000gt. and they usually run anywhere from $100 for a used one to i think $200 for brand new. my truck is an auto, i eliminated a lot of it, but it still suffers due to the pipes going from the engine to the turbo are still too long and the exhaust housing on the turbo is too small. i think that a turbo with a bigger housing will flow better and be more efficeint. the other thing im still considering is going with a stall, but i dont know who makes one.

well when u find a translator that works let me know. as far as a stall i belive that spo, the guy who started the "race" thread had found a place that could make one 4 him. may want to hit him up but i also rember Joel strongly cautioning him about doing the mod. Clay

hmmm... well ill just have to see. i think that putting a stall on a lightly modded vehicle wouldnt be the best of all ideas. so has anyone just thought about doing a supercharger instead of a turbo? i know that turbos are better because they are not parasitic (sp?) but it would give you better low end and off the line and when it comes to street races, off the line usually wins.
