Get a VR6 from a Jetta. You can run 18psi in boost and there is tons of aftermarket to take it from a 2.8L to a 3L engine that can run reliably at 350HP and around 325 torque...then again, it will be more expensive to do this than to find an old chevy 350 bore/stroke it, run it on pump gas, and call it a day.

Yeah, BUT I would have to then change the trans, drive shaft, and transfer case which would make me frown like crazy. I'll just wait and see what the salvage yard has. VW/Audi engines are great but I'd like to keep it all somewhat dsm to give hope to all you montero sport owners. Stroke kits are freakishly expensive and will drink gas 5.7L bored and stroked would give me all of 9 mpg while the turbo 3.0 would give me good enough hp and not suck gas. I would swap for something big like a 427 if i didn't have to drive it everyday.

pretty much anything Mitsu outside of the SUV/Truck line will require a different transmission and transfer case.
No one makes an adapter that I've ever heard of for anything mitsu.
easiest way? Pull engine, transmission, transfercase from a late 90's Jeep XJ Cherokee. Dump it in the Montero Sport. fab up custom engine mounts and cross members, do some axle work, and yer done. TONS of aftermarket support for the 4L inline 6. Gobs of torque down low.
Super charger kits available, stroker kits, all sorts of stuff available.

cams are in .!00mph at 4500rpms. there are still another 1500rpms and another gear. still working on the tuneing as I am trying to figure out how to go about advancing the timing but will have dyno results on monday and hopefuly some answers. The sound is now much deeper and it pulls hard from freeway speeds. Clay

If you're looking to advance the cam timing, you'll need to purchase a set of adjustable cam gears. Tuning should be done to a professional with the use of a dyno. Also- any engine RPM inconsistancies may result in a check engine light.

I am working on the gears. I got a set but there was no way to attatch the cam gear position sensor on either of them.I did go to the dyno and they messed the test all up. said I had 154 tourque and 147 hp. If the truck was that much down on power I would feel it as it was at 204 and 169. Plus the air to fuel was 18-1 at the start and at peak it was 16-1. I know way too lean but that may be the only thing they did right so i turned the rr fuel pres reg up from 38 to 42 pounds. It may need more but wont know till I go somewhere else to dyno it.that should give u an idea of how much more air it is sucking. Is it possoble that the stock injectors may not be up to the task of putting enough fuel in the engine? its looking like I may have to come up with about 2500 to get a stand alone and piggyback and new ignition. well i will have a tuned vehicle on the 30th. Found a new place to go to to have the gears put on and then have it tuned on a dyno. this will give me a baceline before I get the greedy e-force ultimate and a map sensor to replace the mas. this fun !!!!!!!.

well i think u have to have of get some type of piggyback that will allow u to bypass the ecu. I was told that greddy e-force had a adaptor for the mas harness or that they could put 1 together. this is prob a couple months off for me but it is hard to use disipline in these situations. I feel like a kid in a candy store. Clay

well the gears never came in from fidanza yet but i have managed to get a little closer, although i cheated (with nos). i think that monturbo would be closer if he could get all the bugs worked out and get it to a dyno. i wont have any results 4 a coulpe weeks cause i have to wait on cooler plugs.
